Decades later, Zhi Ling diligently cultivated and was about to face the Transformation Tribulation. If she could overcome this tribulation, she would be able to transform into human form and speak the human tongue.
After some consideration, Lin Yi decided to let Zhi Ling undergo the tribulation in her current identity as a descendant of the Vermilion Bird, because even after the tribulation, she wouldn't immediately transform into human form. She would need to absorb the energy left by the Heavenly Tribulation to remodel herself.
Since a fabricated identity allows Zhi Ling, the Spiritual Pet, to possess another identity, then upon reaching transformation, she should also be able to project a corresponding human appearance.
Furthermore, having Zhi Ling face the Transformation Tribulation in the guise of a Vermilion Bird descendant would solidify the belief in the hearts of the Demon Tribe's Tribulation Patriarchs that she was a being descended from the Immortal Realm.
