Lukas froze at the sight of it.
Its visage broke something in his mind and a flood of memories came back to him, many of which he couldn't remember fully until now. He relived that night all over again in the span of a few seconds.
The images of his family's corpses flashed in his mind, the agony still present in their lifeless eyes were just as clear to him now as they were all those months ago. The pure dread and sorrow in his heart resurfaced and he felt a fear so deep, so primal that he couldn't fathom anything other than dying right here and now, as at least then the nightmare would be over.
The terror he felt at their corpses spread out so chaotically and meaninglessly, without care or thought behind their death, cruel and instant, is something that haunts him now.
