Only a few hours after the trio had left the cabin, the rain began to fall. They had heard the booming of thunder, and even the occasional glimpse of lightning, at least half an hour before the rain came. But far faster than any of them anticipated, they became drenched.
It was only a matter of minutes until the rain had gone from light and sparse to pounding like hail and with a density that rivalled a tropical storm. The thunder was constant as lightning sparked between the clouds and struck the ground with fury.
The trio pushed through it as best they could. But they were eventually rendered motionless as they clung to trees and rocks during the worst of the storm.
It haltered their progress to a slow trudge, but it did not completely stop all progress. Even in the times when they were left clinging to trees, they still tried to push forward in the brief moments when the wind died down.
