Lukas lay on his bed staring up at the ceiling. It was about noon and he couldn't stop thinking. There were red marks on his cheeks from where he slapped himself to stop thinking. But it didn't work and only served to make him think more.
The words of Bene still rang in his head as he thought over what he wanted to do. He didn't want to believe everything he said was true. He couldn't accept that everything he had worked for was for nothing.
He took a sharp breath and got out of bed. A pain shot through his chest for a moment. He clutched his chest until the pain went away.
Once it had receded, he left the barracks and went out in search of Wels. If anyone knew whether Bene's words were true or not, it was the master of the special division himself.
