Oak put his hand on the ground, spreading his fingers minutely into the soil.
"Why do you do that, by the way?"
Oak looked up at Lukas.
"Do what?"
"That thing with your hand, you did it the other day when you were doing this with Vesa. You sit there for minutes, sometimes, shifting your fingers around."
"Oh, it helps me to... grasp the way the earth is made? Uh... I don't know how to explain it. There's a limit to how much my Frequency can make disappear, so it helps me to know what I'm using it on better. Moving my fingers back and forth helps me learn how the ground is made up so I can guess how the soil is packed and get an understanding of the complexity of the ground itself."
Lukas stared dumbfounded at Oak for several seconds.
