Now that he had left the dinner hour, he had free time. Nevertheless, he didn't know what to do of free time. He sighed deeply.
Finally, he chooses to return in his room.
He needed to do some research about this world.
"So stupid. He is really the young master of Polaris?" A maid laughed.
Lucian turns the look behind. He found two maid who talked.
He existed three classes in this world for maid from my knowledge. High-Maid is the first class, Mid-Maid the second class and Low-Maid the last class.
This person was classified in the lowest class. Just useful for cleaning the house.
And Lucian had persecuted by low rank.
He caught the low-maid who laughed.
"You. Why you laughed behind me?" Lucian was staring the woman.
"I-I didn't do that!" She lied.
The second maid had already left the position. So, Lucian caught the arm's woman.
He can see the badge. "Dorothy?" She flinched.
"I-I'm sorry! Let me go!" But Lucian didn't release the woman and ordered. "Go into the family library and bring me several book with like historical theme."
Then the low-maid left quickly in the hallways.
He hopes that woman didn't forget his instructions. What was her name? Dorothy. He marks her name in his mind.
Lucian continued to walk until his room.
He opens the door and enter inside. The smell of his room was acrid, with a slight scent of smock. Lucian follows the smell and looks out the window.
"Oh. It a training center?" Lucian can see many soldiers who carrying a musket. They raised the musket and fired in the front.
Soldiers touched training dummies.
"So loud!" Lucian was covering her ears. He thought that if he does not close the window, her ears would explode.
He closes suddenly the window and approach to the door. He heard knocking at his door.
"Y-Young master, I have brought your book back to you." She continued to flinch.
"Perfect, you can come back now."
Lucian closed the door in front of Dorothy.
"…"
Dorothy does not understand. She come back like a defective robot.
Lucian had already opened his books.
"The Historical records of the Gorgone Empire." He was murmuring.
Lucian was interested. Gorgone Empire was his country of birth. He was eight years old, his memories were not bad for a kid but not sufficient to know his world.
The books had minimalist covers. Only letters were written is the page.
« Gorgone Empire were the first country to fight monsters. It is the foundation to human race on the continent to battle for its hegemony. Nevertheless, the countries like Kristen Kingdom slowed down Gorgone Empire's efforts to push back monsters."
The first text introduced the battle between monsters and humans.
This led the monsters to spread to all parts of the continent, creating monster nests in every corner of the world. Forests, mountains, and lakes.
A battle that was easily won became a hard-fought battle.
In anger, the Empire destroyed the Kingdom of Kristen, reducing it to a mere principality. But this led to detrimental repercussions, notably causing the remaining kingdoms to form a military alliance.
Although the Empire had no motivation for conquest, its immense size and geographical position allowed it to fight any state easily.
During these difficult times, the kingdoms finally declared war on the Gorgon Empire, plunging the continent into a world war.
Millions of soldiers crossed the continent.
Several kingdoms were destroyed, and others were created from the ruins. The monsters took advantage of this chaos to expand and unleash monster pandemics.
It was only at that moment that humans decided to write a lasting truce to push the monsters back to distant lands.
An organization named High Defenders became notably popular to this day.
These are individuals with powerful abilities, chosen by the Empire and the kingdoms. They created individual units and each fought thousands of monsters together.
108 units of High Defenders swept across the continent.
It was only when the monster lords retreated that the intensity of the battles decreased. The High Defenders led a final assault, managing to kill one of the monster lords, leading the remaining monsters to disappear into the deep forests.
It was a memorable event.
'Long live the Empire!'
'Humanity has defeated the monsters!'
Historians recorded the tales.
The Gorgon Empire used this day as a national holiday to commend the High Defenders coming from the Empire. The kingdoms also celebrated this day.
However, the cohesion among the High Defenders quickly broke down due to national interests. It started with the kingdoms seeking ways to discreetly recruit certain individuals.
The Empire responded by gathering an army.
And a second world war broke out.
Even though the Empire held an enormous number of soldiers in its ranks, the alliance of the kingdoms managed to defend against the Empire's overwhelming assault.
Ultimately concluding a peace treaty and the dissolution of the High Defenders.
Lucian was clearly interested.
The High Defenders. They must be powerful people with abilities like using ice or fire.
Lucian was also a man. He liked things like supernatural abilities.
Blowing up the ground just by jumping, destroying rocks by punching them. Isn't that just every man's dream?
Turning to the next page, Lucian came across a map of all the countries.
The Empire was situated in the North, to the East was the Principality of Kristen, to the West were two kingdoms, Tulas and Nolia. To the south was another empire named Prague.
Lucian hadn't heard that the Prague Empire had participated during the war against the monsters. It must have been an empire that didn't get involved with the others.
But on this map, the appearance of a huge mountain surprised him.
The mountains were marked by narrow, winding lines, forming ridges. These mountains were in the center of the continent, each peak bearing strange names like the Sky Mountains or the Death Mountains.
Some parts of the continent or even within kingdoms had thick twisted trees representing forests, named monster clearings.
These were undoubtedly the habitats of the monsters.
He scratched his chin.
"Finished? It was starting to get interesting." Lucian had reached the end of the book. So, he took the second book but dropped another book onto the floor instead.
"Mana Training?" Lucian became curious.
He thought he had asked Dorothy to bring books about history, but he ended up with a book listing mana.
He dropped the second book and instead opened the book he had found.
'Awakening one's talent. Concentrating on the body's energy.'
Lucian long scrutinized the writings and positioned himself in the lotus position. It talked about the constitution of humans and human transformation.
Everyone practices the awakening process at twelve years old. Each High Defender has gone through this process, awakening unique abilities.
The most well-known is scale destruction. The stronger the blow, the more astonishing the impact.
Lucian thought of just reading it simply, but understanding that all the High Defenders practiced this technique, he couldn't sit still.
'There's nothing to lose by trying.' He was excited to begin learning the awakening.
Lucian blew softly and concentrated. His vision was black, but white trails appeared in his mind. He felt a small energy inside his belly. All humans have mana in their bodies.
He had to calm down if he didn't want to fail the awakening process.
Following the book's instructions, he tried to gather all this mana in his chest to form an internal core.
'Wow!' Lucian raised his eyebrows and started sweating profusely.
He had managed to form a core, but it quickly became uncontrollable. His body was so painful that he thought hundreds of spikes were piercing him.
His body was about to explode.
His veins turned blue because of the toxin coming from the mana.
'Damn it!' At the moment when his body couldn't hold on anymore, he followed his instinct.
The surrounding mana quickly disappeared.
Lucian opened his eyes looking at his body. 'I did it!'
However, he discovered a problem. The core hadn't formed? However, he still felt the mana in his body.
Instead of a mana core, he had dispersed his mana throughout his body, transforming his body into a sort of mana core.
'Crazy…' he thought.
But it wasn't him who just said that. '!' He was surprised and jumped back.
'What… another doppelgänger?!' Lucian screamed.
A Lucian appeared in front of him and stared at him long with his red eyes.
But he quickly shut up when he realized he could control it intuitively. It's like the special abilities described in the book.
"All the High Defenders have a special ability, mine is duplication?" Lucian was honestly excited about the result.
But he quickly felt tired, and his double quickly disappeared.
"It costs a lot of mana to manifest it in reality…" Watching the mana turn into dust, he fell silent.
His double was entirely made of mana, if it disappeared, it was because of his lack of mana in his body. The supply line was cut off.
However, his body had a natural limit. He felt it unconsciously as he gathered it into all his limbs.
"If I don't increase my mana, I will never be able to use it for long." Thinking back to his double who had just disappeared, he could only hold it for thirty seconds.
It's a relatively short time.
Lucian wondered how to quickly increase his mana.
Cultivation novels always explained that the increase of Qi came from meditation. Does this system work in this world too?
Lucian wanted to try. He had nothing to lose, even if it meant being embarrassed.
Sitting in a lotus position, he crossed his fingers and calmed his mind of all thoughts. It's a controlled meditation.
He remained like this for several hours.
Sweat was dripping from his clothes, but he continued still. It was only when the sunlight rose that he felt a noticeable increase.
"It's weak but noticeable...!" Lucian jumped for joy.
"Wow!" However, staying in the same position for six hours had become a heavy burden for an eight-year-old child, and Lucian stumbled several times before falling asleep.
