Chapter 8 - Going Out

A few days after the infiltration in the palace area where Dion and Jillian lived, Dion's injuries were gradually recovering. He could already move normally as usual.

As usual, after breakfast the two returned to the room to rest for a while. Jillian sat in front of the dressing table while smoothing her hair while Dion returned to sit by the window while reading a book he had brought from the library.

"What are you reading?" asked Jillian as she watched Dion in the mirror.

"Some books, as you can see."

"Hmn?" Jillian turned in her seat to watch her husband. "What books are you reading? Fairy tales?" she continued to ask in a dismissive tone.

"Heh... You think I'm a child? Just shut up, you're disturbing my concentration. You'd better get out."

Jillian snorted softly then turned back to the mirror and smoothed her hair again. She actually felt bored staying in the palace and doing nothing. She wanted to go out once in a while to see the situation outside the palace, she had never seen it since arriving in the Keinheart Kingdom.

'But if I go alone, I don't know my way around this place...' she thought. She looked back at Dion who was focused on his book. She wanted to invite him, but she felt reluctant because the two of them were not familiar.

She wouldn't suddenly ask someone who was her rival out, would she?

But her curiosity and boredom far outweighed her shyness, so she finally asked Dion out. Dion stopped flipping through his book and turned to look at his wife with a surprised look. "What are you going out for? With me?"

"I'm bored here! I want to see what's outside, maybe the village outside the palace. What about the market? Do they sell anything interesting?"

"You could say that," Dior replied, returning to his book.

Jillian got up from her chair and approached Dion. "Then take me there. I don't know the way there, plus... I don't have the money to buy what I want later..." she pleaded.

"So, you think because I'm your husband you want me to accompany you and buy you something?" Dion turned to look at Jillian. He flinched slightly when he saw her pleading face.

"Come on. All I have is the jewelry from our wedding. Do you want me to sell it and exchange it for money?"

"Just because our wedding was planned, doesn't mean you can sell the jewelry randomly," Dion said with a long sigh and then closed his book. "Okay, let's go."

The woman looked very happy, her plan to seduce Dion had worked. She always did that to the people closest to her when she wanted something. Dion told her to change her dress, she couldn't go out wearing such a fancy dress. Jillian understood and changed her dress happily.

Dion himself was only wearing a white shirt and black pants, so there was no need to change his clothes. He always wore simple clothes when there was no business in the palace.

"Are you that happy to go out? I'm not letting you out because I'm tempted by your advances, but it's in return for you treating me."

"Okay, okay~"

After changing their clothes, the two went out of the room to the front gate. There they met Theodore who happened to be passing by, he asked where they were going and Jillian replied that they were going for a short walk. Hearing that Theodore actually looked a little wary then turned to Dion.

"It won't take long, we're just going to the market to satisfy her curiosity," Dion replied.

"Alright then. Be careful outside and have fun."

"Sure, see you later Theo!"

The two of them left the palace and walked to a market not far from their palace. Like any other market, it was quite crowded with people trading and buying and selling. Lots of objects and food were being sold there.

The crown princess hummed happily as she looked around. Apart from the market, there were also houses lined up neatly. Their places were also not dirty with garbage, everything was neat and clean. "This place is nice. Living outside the palace in a neighborhood like this must be nice..." she murmured softly.

Dion heard this and turned his head to look at Jillian who looked serious about her words. "You're right..." he said.

"Hmn, what is it?" asked Jillian.

"Nothing. So is there anything that caught your attention here? It's just a normal market, just like any other market. If there's nothing, we can go back."

"Wait a minute, we just arrived. Don't rush..." said the woman holding Dion's hand.

Dion glanced at his hand held by Jillian, realizing that, she immediately pulled her hand away from Dion. Suddenly she smelled something delicious and fragrant. Jillian turned her head to look for the origin of the sweet scent and followed it.

"Hey, where are you going?"

She continued walking until her steps stopped in front of a simple bakery in the market. Judging by the open door, bread had just been taken out of the toaster. Attracted by the delicious aroma, Jillian entered the shop.

Inside there were tons of different types of bread for sale, they were all different shapes and looked very delicious. Seeing someone coming, the shop owner, an old woman, walked over to them.

"Welcome... Ohh, it's the Crown Princess and Crown Prince. Welcome to our shop," she said with a slight bow.

"Ahh you recognize us? No need to bow like that," Jillian said helping the shopkeeper to straighten up.

"I smell something new from your shop, it looks like some bread has just been baked. Can we buy some?"

The old woman smiled and nodded. "Sure, this bread has blueberry jam in it. Do you like it?"

"Yes, it's my favorite. Then I'll buy two! Dion want some too?" she asked turning to Dion who was looking around the shop.

"No, thank you."

The old lady carefully put the two still-warm buns into a paper bag. "Are the Crown Princess and Crown Prince on a date right now? You guys look really good together," the bakery owner praised.

"Huh? We're..."

"Yes, we are dating. Occasionally spending time alone with my wife," Dion cut in. "So how much for everything?"

"That makes four gold coins, but since there are two of you, just pay two gold coins. Consider this one a bonus from me," she replied.

Jillian refused and said she didn't have to, but the old lady was fine with it. She was just happy to see the two of them getting along so well and being so kind to her. Dion gave the woman three gold coins and then said goodbye, pulling Jillian by the hand out of the shop.

"Why did you say we were dating?" Jillian asked.

"That's what they should think of us. We're the husband and wife of royalty, don't let there be any strange rumors about us that aren't true," Dion explained.

Hearing that, Jillian could only stay silent because what Dion said was true. She also ate one of the buns.

"Ohh it tastes so good..." she said admiringly. "You have to try this!" she continued as she offered the bread to Dion.

Dion refused, but because he was forced to, he finally tried it too. He was quite impressed because the bread was very good, plus it was warm. "Delicious..."

"It is, isn't it? Well, you eat one. I actually bought two because I meant for you to have one."

"Are you sure you want to give me bread this good?" asked Dion as he looked at Jillian, he didn't expect Jillian to think of him.

The woman nodded her head and walked ahead. "There's still a lot I want to buy with your money anyway. So enjoy a little of your money," she replied with her tongue out, teasing Dion.

Dion smiled in annoyance at Jillian's answer, but in the end he ate the bread together with Jillian while going back to walking.
