"Damn! Damn!"
Mundungus paced anxiously in the room.
"Why am I inexplicably involved in this trouble?"
Hearing Mundungus' words, Tonks blushed; she knew she caused all these troubles.
"Who are these guys? Why did you mess with them?" Ethan couldn't help but ask when he looked at Tonks. He wanted to find out who he was messing with first.
"I don't know. I only know that a lot of ordinary wizards have disappeared recently. We were sent to investigate. While shopping in Diagon Alley, I met a suspicious person and followed him into the alley. You know what happened next."
"Do you still know any specific details?" Ethan inquired.
"I'm a trainee Auror. I don't know much, but it is said that these dark wizards were making human sacrifices," Tonks said, lowering her voice and appearing mysterious.
Hearing this, Mundungus' face momentarily turned pale. Uncomfortably, he said, "I've heard of these people. They are everywhere in Knockturn Alley lately. I don't know much."
Mundungus scratched his head. "It is said that they worship something inexplicably... Mirror God?"
"Mirror God?" Tonks exclaimed. If so many people were involved in cult groups, then the problem would be no trivial matter. A cult organization composed of dark wizards was much more cohesive than a gang.
Ethan observed through the small window as more dark wizards filled the streets, searching every house. Homeless people were dragged out, ignored, and executed. The dark wizards got closer to the house where the three were.
"Tonks, can you contact your colleague?" Ethan turned to Tonks, realizing that passing on information was crucial.
"I can use the Patronus to carry the news out." Tonks's forehead glistened with a thin layer of nervous sweat.
"Expecto Patronum." Tonks raised her wand and waved it, but only a cloud of silver steam emerged from the tip of her wand. The wand she had picked up wasn't suitable for her.
Failing to cast the spell made Tonks even more anxious. She quickly waved her wand and attempted the Patronus Charm twice, but unfortunately, both attempts failed. Tonks gripped the wand tightly, causing her knuckles to turn white.
"Don't worry, calm down, and take your time." Ethan noticed Tonks's distress and comforted her with a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
Hearing Ethan's words, Tonks gradually calmed down. She focused her energy and tried to think about the happiest thing in her heart.
"Expecto Patronum." This time was different; a silver form shot out of Tonks's wand—a pale rabbit. The rabbit hopped around Tonks and Ethan twice before skillfully leaping out of the window to fulfill the task of transmitting information.
Meanwhile, Mundungus nervously rummaged through the room, seeking a hiding spot. Finally, he discovered a large box in the shabby closet.
Overjoyed, Mundungus attempted to get into the box, but his fleshy body severely restricted his movement. After several unsuccessful tries, he grew furious. Crawling out of the box, he kicked its sides before sitting on the worn bed, panting and silent. The dark wizard outside heightened his stress.
Ethan paid little attention to Mundungus's emotions. He retrieved two spare crossbows from his backpack, handing one to Tonks and tossing the other to Mundungus, who remained seated on the bed.
"Mundungus, you'll defend the second floor," Ethan instructed.
"Take over? What? I'll take over?" Mundungus held the crossbow foolishly, unsure of his role in this.
"Everyone has to do their best to survive!" Ethan impatiently reminded Mundungus, "You're on the second floor to cover me. Don't try to escape; you've seen how they treat those homeless people. They won't let anyone on this street get out alive."
Hearing Ethan's words, Mundungus gritted his teeth and reluctantly agreed to Ethan's plan.
A cold full moon hung in the air, casting its glow on the chilly streets of Knockturn Alley. The usually bustling alley was eerily quiet tonight, with no one in sight.
Even the shops on Knockturn Alley had tightly closed doors and windows; some boarded up. Those who ran shops here were no strangers to danger; they had caught wind that something significant would happen tonight and closed up early.
In front of the small building, a group of dark wizards had gathered. A powerful wizard continuously rammed the door, but it held firm as Ethan and Tonks barricaded it with furniture.
Finally losing patience, the wizard raised his wand. "Exp..."
Before the spell could finish, a crossbow arrow shot through the door, finding its mark in the wizard's mouth. The arrow pierced the back of the wizard's head, leaving him lifeless.
Terrified, the surrounding dark wizards retreated, seeking cover.
Originally confident due to their numbers, they now realized the danger they faced.
The apparent leader, summoning courage, cast an iron armor spell on himself and raised his wand.
"Confringo." The curse hit the door heavily, shattering it and revealing the dark room inside.
Seeing the door blown open, several dark wizards rushed in without awaiting orders, causing the leader to frown. The recent recruits were not accustomed to following orders, often preferring to act independently.
"But it's fine; let them explore the situation," he thought darkly. In Knockturn Alley, betrayal among teammates was common.
After a while, he sensed something amiss. The few dark wizards who entered hadn't made a sound like they had vanished into thin air.
His accomplices couldn't wait any longer and barged in. Like the previous group, the room remained silent, amplifying the fear and anxiety surrounding them as the entrance remained open like a monster's mouth, beckoning the intruders forward.
