Immediately I ran to my window it was my friend's best friends Rachel and Sharon. They have both been so busy with work and traveling we haven't seen each other in months I was so happy to see them I needed them.
"Girl, you look good and breathtaking," Rachel said to me "Oh yes she does you glowing girlfriend "Sharon added. Sharon and Rachel have been my friends for a long time we went to the same junior and high school even the same university.
Rachel is the loud and crazy friend, she always has a crazy idea or plan while Sharon is the calm one who's always opposing all of Rachel's crazy plans. "I look good? Really? But have not been good. For one my dad has been forcing me to get married to a man I don't love" "To a man you don't love why?" Sharon asked with a concerned and worried face "A casino" I said and rolled my eyes "He is giving me out for a casino the man does not want my dad to pay in cash he wants me instead".
I narrated the whole story to them but didn't tell them who the Guy I was getting married to was.
"Girl you need to tell us who this guy is, " Rachel asked me with a big smile "Donovan, Donovan Williams".
"What!" Rachel screamed in shock she was surprised it was written all over her face. Sharon on the other hand could not even speak her mouth was wide open the expressions on their faces killed me I had to burst into laughter. "Wait so you are saying THE DONOVAN WILLIAMS is the guy you are been forced to get married to," Sharon asked me with a little smile on her face, her eyes were puffy like a puppy you could see how happy she was "Yes," I said pretending to look confused like I didn't know what she was trying to say.
I know any lady would be so lucky to have Donovan as her husband but I wasn't maybe because of how the marriage was planned I just knew I was nothing close to being excited about the wedding. "I heard he has a younger brother right," Rachel asked me she was speechless I never expected that question from her but I was not surprised."Yes he does, Drew, his name is Drew" I answered her with a smile "You even know his name had you met him? Tell me about him, how does he look? What does he smell like? Tell me everything about him, and Girl don't leave a single word out" I stared at Rachel and I couldn't help but laugh this girl was going crazy about someone she had only seen on TV or in the newspaper. "Well, he looks good, He smells very good he's well-spoken and well-mannered too, and yes have met him twice I think. The first time that I met him we talked at length and he made me relax because it was not a good day then".
"Girl I don't care what you say, you have to, No not have to you need to marry Donovan. Your father is not forcing you he's always trying to build your future, do you know how wealthy that family is? Do you know how wealthy Donovan is? Girl Come on this is a big jackpot don't let this opportunity pass you by because of some lame reasons". Rachel said while looking directly into my soul she was so close to my face that I had to move from her but I was not surprised at all I knew Rachel would say something like that. "Girl Rachel is right give us one good reason why you do not want to marry Donovan". "Let me think, oh maybe because I have a boyfriend already, you guys know how much I and Daniel love each other right?" "Girl, please forget about love, we both know that Daniel can't give you or afford the life you want and deserve. And don't give me that crap about love again please".
I kept quiet I could not say anything I was very speechless and tired about everything how could my friends not be on my side?
"His mum told me I have to come to her house and stay for a whole week before getting married to her son".
"Well, I hope you agree because you are going, girlfriend".
"Yes I did and I also agreed to marry Donovan Williams in a month but if I don't want it I can call it off on that day Even Mr. Williams is by my side on this one". I said with a big smile of pride. "So you are saying Mr. Williams said you could call off the wedding if you don't want it?" Sharon asked "Exactly".
"So that means Mr. Williams said he's ready to support you and not his son right?". Sharon asked looking confused she and Rachel kept staring at themselves with a face full of confusion.
I guess I didn't think about that. Was that possible would him to support me instead of his son? "I don't know, but that was what he said, I doubt he would go back on his word," I said trying to give myself hope even though I was filled with doubts and confusion.
"OK girl whatever you say, but I'm sure the wedding will happen," Rachel said as she stood up and walked closer to sit with me She gave me a warm I felt relaxed and just immediately she surprised me yet again with the question she asked. "Could you ask your mother-in-law or Donovan if I could come spend that one week with you" Immediately I bent my head down in disappointment and burst into laughter.
"You will ask him, right? Please girlfriend " " I don't think I can it's not his face it's his father's house and I know for a fact that his mother doesn't like me". "She doesn't like you? Why? Did you say or do something to her?". Sharon came closer to me and asked, I looked at her with a half smile because even I wondered why his mum kept giving me attitude.
"Honestly I did nothing wrong to her she just obviously doesn't like me you know just like that," I said while staring out the window. Just as Rachel was about to speak my mum entered the room to call us for dinner downstairs it was already dark outside we had been so busy talking that we forgot to check the time or look outside. "Mrs Smith you still got it trust me, your cooking skills". Rachel said as we all laughed quietly.
My mum used to cook for us all back then in school, Rachel's mum and dad were hardly around to take care of her and she was an only child just like me. Fortunately, they stayed close to us I and Rachel became friends and my mum loved her just like her own daughter. Sharon on the other hand had a middle-class parent she was the first child, and she had a younger sister. She would always come to our house and beg to play with me and take a swim at the pool. I introduced her to Rachel and we all became friends and since then we have been more of sisters than friends.
"How have you both been?" my mum asked them.
"We have both been fine Mrs Smith, and have you been? You look younger every time I see you, Mrs. Smith you need to tell me the secret, please "Sharon said then looked at me I was already dying of laughter because Rachel was staring at me and she kept making faces while Sharon was talking. Even my mum couldn't say anything she just smiled stood up and went to her room.
We were done with our dinner, we went back upstairs to my room. Rachel entered the bathroom to shower it was just I and Sharon in the room and I knew she would say something while Rachel wasn't there as I expected she came and sat down close to me on the bed with her puffy beautiful eyes, unlike me, Sharon had a longer hair and a round beautiful face.
"Girl I want to say something and I need you to pay attention to me. I know you can give me hundreds and thousands of reasons why you don't want to get married Donovan but girl please think about it, it's not an entirely bad idea you know what I'm trying to say is your future is secured lots of ladies out there would kill to have your place I hope you know that" it's Been a long time since I last saw Sharon is serious. She was so serious I was speechless. She stood up as Rachel came outside, she turned and looked at me "Think about it okay love" She smiled and entered the bathroom to shower.
It was late midnight, Rachel and Sharon were fast asleep but u weren't I kept thinking about everything I was so deep in thought. What if what Sharon said was true I mean my future would truly be secured what if this is a blessing in disguise? Just then I remembered the things he said about marriage being just about sex and immediately I was disgusted at him and myself for thinking that kind of man was a blessing simply because he was rich. I mean yes money is important in all marriages but I need to remember respect is also very important in all marriages. And Donovan does not have that for me and I don't even blame him, why would he respect a lady that was practically sold to him? I said to myself and walked to the window I opened it to look out at the sky. I took my phone and called Daniel. "I'm sure he's awake," I said quietly to myself. I called him the first time he didn't pick I did the second time the same thing, I dropped my phone and immediately he called me back.
"I see you have forgotten all about me right" I said with a little smile on my face.
"Why would I? I will never forget about you, baby girl, have been trying to keep a little distance so you don't get in trouble with Donovan I wouldn't want that for you baby. But honestly, I miss you I miss us, I miss spending time with you babe I miss everything please I need you back with me babe. When will all of these be over so we can continue where we stopped". Just then I realized how greedy I had been when I said marrying Donovan might be a blessing, it wasn't anything about Donovan or this marriage was a blessing. What would happen to Daniel? What has he done to me for me to think about leaving him to marry someone else?…. I was lost in thought and I felt very bad about everything because did not deserve Any of these, He is one of the sweetest guys I know and have ever met.
"Hello hello, are you there babe?"
"Yes babe I'm here and I promise you very soon all these will be over trust me". I was confused if I should tell him about my agreement with the WILLIAMS or not, how would he react, would he be enough to understand me?
Daniel has always tried his best to understand me in every situation, though he might not be rich he respected me a lot and was always there to give me his shoulders when I needed it.
"Daniel I don't want to keep secrets from you so I need you to listen and understand me, please babe".
"I'm all ears baby girl, speak to me".
