Chapter 1 - Birthday wish.

I can't remember, but I once read a quote that said, "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

But I would like to add to it, for those who believe in angels, those who believe in good, in the light and all righteous should also dread and fear the darkness because with no darkness, there shall be no light.

But in the end, light prevails most times.

He blew out the candle.

Standing in front of a cake that spelled out Happy birthday, Luke was a rather tall teenager, standing around 6'3 in (ca. 2 m) in height.

His ginger hair was tied back secured with a band.

He was wearing a pair of black pants and an office shirt with the sleeves rolled back.

he had a sad look in his eyes; as his eyes focused on the door.

He sighs.

It was his 18th birthday party and, as usual, his parents were nowhere to be found.

The maids and his personal butler have been the closest thing to family that he had since he knew what family meant.

"Make a wish, Luke" The butler said.

He was a middle age man, rather strong and tall for someone who had passed his 40s, he always wore a black suit like he was preparing for a special occasion.

His black hair with spots of gray went well with his face that always wore a smile, his Scottish accent was atlas his most distinguish feature.

"Remember young master, manner maketh, Clothing maketh kings" he always said, like a father advising his child.

This thing, there was nothing more Luke could wish for rather than to see his parents again.

How long as it been; a year or two since he last saw them, it was for a brief moment before they left as they always did with excuses of work overseas.

But he thought as he was becoming more of an adult, his parents would care to show up to celebrate his passing from childhood to becoming a young man.

He just got into college; he had no idea if they knew.

What was the use of all this money if he couldn't buy a single second with his parents, he rather they stopped working and spend some time with him.

His mind goes wandering as he thinks of his mother.

He was never allowed to leave the state unless one of the maids or Butler was with him, even on school trips, he felt his parents as absent as they were bent on being over protective.

"Master Luke" this pulls him back to reality.

"Don't you want to make a wish?" One of the maids asked.

Luke stares at her trying hard to remember her name, apart from the butler, the maids were swapped out even 6 months or so.

Although he had asked several times, he was never given any reasonable answer.

"Oh, their services were no longer required"

"They must have been caught slacking off on their duties"

Those were the primary answers he could think of.

"Oh Elsa, I have already made a wish" He was with his calm and smooth voice.

The maid simply smiled as she moves back into the crowd.

The butler walks towards him with a black box in his hand, handling it to him.

"Your parents will like you to have this" He said with a smile.

Luke stared at the box in his hand, it was a rather small box, and he was used to getting them.

The last one contained a key to a Boeing 747-8 VIP.

What would a 17-year-old teenager do with a private jet when they never let him travel out of the state, less the country.

He places the box into his pocket with a smile as he thanks the butler and turns towards the staircase.

The next day, was his first day in college , and he was going to get enough rest for the big day tomorrow.

As usual, his parents refused to let him move into the dorms "No way am I letting you move into the dorm, it is too dangerous" He remembers as his father's words rang through the phone.

It was cold and commanding as usual, he rarely called him unless he wanted something the butler couldn't approve.

No matter what time he called they always picked up, making him wonder if they were really on their so-called business trips.

But after years of practice, he could have careless.

He jumps on his bed caring less and taking off his clothes or shoes.

He was already exhausted from pretending to be happy.

The footsteps and creaking sounds from downstairs woke him up soon enough.

It was the usual patrolling by the maids and butler, and he was already used to it.

He didn't bother asking what they were doing this late at night, but he knew he won't get a reasonable answer and rather than being confused more; he rather be curious, hopefully they will tell him soon.

He gets up as he walks to the bathroom.

After taking a bath, he changes his wear to a rather large pajamas with a bold text that said Horns and wings only.

He remembers the box and was thinking of opening it the following day, but curiosity got the best of him as he walks to the study table, turning on the study lamp.

He rips open the black wrapper only to be met by a black box.

the box itself seems to be made from metal, but it was not heavy and one could mistake it was made from paper like regular gift boxes.

He yanks it open.

Inside was a letter and a key.

"Typical of them" He said as he grabs the letter first, unfolding it.

After unfolding, his eyes widen from the note written on the letter.

It was short, consisting of a few words written in all caps.

"RUN, IT COMING…. ICELAND THEY WILL BE WAITING" that was all that was contained in the note.

He frowns as he drops the letter, he picks up the key as he stares at it.

He wasn't familiar with any cars or planes that could use a key like this.

He dumps it into the box along with the letter before turning off the light and climbing back on his bed.

Furthermore, he was angry.

Likewise, he remembers as his parents never let him leave the house alone now wants him to move to Iceland.

Who does that? He closed his eyes hoping to get some sleep and he did.

He was jerked up by the knock coming from the door.

It was one of the usual nights where he dreamt, but this was different, he normally dreamt of lives like he had lived them countless times, even to the point of death, but this was different.

He dreamt of the world ending in fire and his death.

The knock from the door didn't give him a moment to catch his breath and recall the dream. "Am awake, just knock it out already" He replied before the person could break down the door.

He got up and walked towards the door, looking through the peephole like he was always told to do before opening the door.

He opens the door, after confirming it was one of the maids.

He was made to memorize all the maid's faces and names, and report any irregular behaviors from them.

Although he could tag everything, they did, from the late night patrols to the inability to enter his room unless he invited them to as irregular, he simply looked out for the so-called irregular behaviors.

He was already close to the bed when he turned back towards the door.

There she was with a smile, she wore the Normal maid outfit that consists of a black sleeves tucked into a long black skirt with a pair of loafers.

"Oh, I let you in" Luke said with a smile back at her, trying to fix his messing bed hair.

She disappears back to the hallway, only to appear later with a trolley tray filled with food.

"Breakfast?" She asked with her head tilted sideways.

"Yeah sure" All the dreaming of death had his tummy rumbling.

She pushes the trolley into the room.

Climbing down from the staircase, Luke carried his bag on his back with a piece of bread in his mouth.

He wore a black hoodie that says am a freshman with blue jeans and a pair of Nike panda low dunks.

He jumps down skipping a few stairs, landing in front of the butler.

"I would advise young master to refrain from activities that could lead to accidents" The butler responds with a cold but sincere voice.

Luke has always been athletic right from when he could remember.

He had always excelled in Sports, and he usually found himself getting bored after a week or two.

"So you are driving me to school, right?" Luke asked, hoping to get at least a different response.

"Yes I will young master" He replied with a chuckle.
