If there is a big presence of androids, the machine will notice and investigate. But if the androids present are small they will not notice it.
Just like a famous quote appears weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak.
"S-so are you here to send me to the moon?"
I blink, taken aback. "The moon? Why would you think that?"
"W-well," she stammers, fidgeting with her hands, "I heard from the androids that the rest of the humans are up there. And... since a human like you is here personally when the android said that human never came to Earth, I thought you were here to pick me up."
I pause, letting her words sink in. From her perspective, it makes sense—why else would a human, who supposedly never sets foot on Earth, show up now?
Too bad that isn't the case.
I let out a sigh, rubbing the back of my neck. "Sorry to break it to you, but... I'm not here for you, kid."
Her hopeful expression falls. "Oh..." she murmurs, her voice soft with disappointment.
"Honestly it was a Complete accident that my mission just had to clash with you, and the androids were not supposed to know I was here. I was here just to trade some important stuff and gather information about the situation around and quickly vanish.."
She pouts even harder, clearly not satisfied with my explanation. I try to soften the blow, offering a half-hearted smile. "But don't worry, someone will come for you eventually. Just hang in there long enough." I give her a reassuring pat on the shoulder, though it feels more like an empty gesture.
She crosses her arms and huffs. "You're making it sound like I'm some annoying kid!"
"Because you are an annoying brat," I say, smirking as her glare sharpens. "Besides, how old are you again?"
She straightens up and puffs out her chest with exaggerated pride. "I'm 16 years old! So you better start treating me like an adult!"
I raise an eyebrow, tapping my chin as if I'm deep in thought. "Sixteen, huh? So that means…" I trail off, pretending to do the math. "I'm seven years older than you."
She blinks, clearly taken aback, her mouth hanging open slightly. "Wha—wait. You're 23?! No way! You don't look it!"
I can't help but feel a bit flattered as I grin. "Why, thank you—"
"I thought you were way older than that!" she blurts out.
My smile falters, and a vein pops on my forehead. "What?" Before she can react, I flick her on the forehead with a quick snap of my fingers.
"Ow!" She yelps, rubbing the spot and shooting me a death glare. "What was that for?!"
Ahh... bullying a brat like her never gets old. If only she were shorter, I could really mess with her more.
I lean down slightly, smirking. "That's for saying I look old, you little brat."
She grumbles under her breath, still rubbing her forehead. "I was just being honest…"
"Well, maybe next time keep your 'honesty' to yourself."
She sticks her tongue out at me, and I can't help but chuckle
Before we know it, we're approaching the camp. Despite getting closer, our conversation keeps flowing, and I make sure to keep her talking. She's the only reliable source of information I have right now without raising suspicion, and I need every bit of intel I can gather.
"Yeah, what's up with these android you guys Made? Why does it involve Glory to mankind? Council of Humanity? And..."
She looks around, her eyes scanning the area cautiously. I follow her gaze and notice the androids around us, their unblinking stares fixed on their surroundings despite arriving at the camp where it was supposed to be safe. It's almost unsettling as well the way they watch us.
"And... those eyes," she whispers, leaning in closer as if sharing a secret. "The androids have this weird look, like they're not really seeing you, but still try to see you. Is this all of human kink or something to be worshiped like a god? 'Cause that's the vibe I'm getting with how these androids act."
Her words hit me like a stab in the chest. She wasn't far off from the truth, and I needed to tread carefully.
"W-well..." I stammer, my mind racing for a plausible explanation. The androids around us are listening, I can feel their unblinking eyes fixed on me. "R-right! It's... because of evolution!"
"Evolution?" she echoes, raising an eyebrow.
"Y-yeah... Since humans rarely interact directly with androids, most of them started to believe we didn't even exist. So... they began to worship us, like... some kind of higher beings."
She narrows her eyes for a moment, suspicion flickering in them. But then, she brings her hand to her chin, seemingly lost in thought. "Huh... And why would humans rarely interact with androids? I mean, if you guys went through all the trouble to build them—"
I feel a pang of panic. If she keeps asking questions, she might catch onto my lies, and with the androids around, I can't afford a slip-up.
"Look! Can you stop questioning me every second?" I snap, my tone harsher than I intended. "I know you've got a lot of questions, but it's getting annoying."
She scratches her head, looking a bit embarrassed. "S-sorry... I was just curious."
I sigh, trying to regain my composure. "I thought everything about humans had already been explained to you, after what? Living for 2 weeks in this world?"
"But the androids around me seem to have no clue about anything related to humans! It's like there's a gap in their memory or something," she says, frustration evident in her voice. "They don't know what we like, how we live, how we have fun, simply they don't know anything! Most of it are just pure guess and knowledge theories."
Her comment hits me like a confirmation. So, it seems my theory is correct, these androids have never actually interacted with a human before aside from Aria of course.
That means their understanding of us is probably limited to whatever programming or data they've been fed. It's a small relief to know that they aren't aware of the truth just yet.
"Just... try not to think too hard about it, okay?" I say, hoping to shift her focus away.
As we make our way deeper into the camp, I take in the layout. We've reached the same spot where I was before.
It's going to be tricky to slip away unnoticed now that we're surrounded by androids, especially with how watchful they are. Every movement feels like it's being recorded and analyzed.
If I want to at least have a chance to escape I at least have to persuade them.
Luckily I am not in a rush since this is an opportunity for me to gather the information that I need, since I am not looking forward to deciphering the head of the android before that could take every year just to finish it.
Why should I decipher Billy's head when I can just ask the android here?
Before I can formulate my next move, I stretch my arms upward, feeling the satisfying crack of my bones. A tired sigh escapes my lips, barely audible.
Captain Rose, who has been observing us closely, seizes the moment to strike up a conversation. "Sir, looks like you're tired?"
Isn't that obvious? "Yeah, it's been a long day with all that running," I reply, keeping my tone casual.
Rose nods, seemingly understanding. "There's an extra room next to Miss Aria's. You can head there, but... I must warn you, it's not exactly fit for humans."
"It's fine, I just want to rest."
Suddenly, the maid android interjects, her voice rising above the chatter. "No! I will not allow you to stay in that dirty room! It's unfit for anyone, let alone a human!"
The room falls silent, and I can feel the tension in the air. I open my mouth to argue, but Captain Rose cuts me off, her voice booming with authority. "I agree! Give us an hour—no, half an hour—to renovate the room!"
Immediately, the androids spring into action, rushing into the building like a swarm of busy bees. The air fills with the sound of frantic shouts and footsteps, and before long, banging, hammering, and what can only be described as construction noises echo from within.
I watch in disbelief as they dart in and out of the room, hauling in materials and machinery. Is this really happening? I glance over at Aria, who's sitting beside me, perfectly calm, sipping tea from a dainty cup. Where did that table and tea set even come from? It's like she summoned them from thin air.
Before I can voice my confusion, an android pulls up a chair behind me, gesturing for me to sit. I lower myself into the seat, still half-stunned, as another android sets a table in front of me, its polished surface gleaming under the overhead lights, adorned with neatly folded napkins and a small vase holding a single, vibrant flower.
This is... some kind of five-star restaurant now? What the hell is going on?
"What the hell is going on?"
Aria places her cup down and looks at me.
"Do you finally get the reason why I am complaining?"
/
We were still surrounded by Android, but it was less than before because most of the androids were running around franticly bringing a bunch of items in and out of the building where the room I was supposed to be sleeping at.
While all of this happening I was drinking some cold tea like it was the most normal thing to do. When we are still stuck in the middle of conflict.
Aria set her cup down with a sharp clink, her expression serious. "The reason I've been complaining about these androids from the start isn't just because they keep watch over me like a damn hawk. It's that they prioritize my security and safety above everything else—resources that could be better used to deal with the enemy who's right on our doorstep that I keep complaining!"
"Oh...I guess that makes sense?" I replied hesitantly, unsure of how to respond to her frustration.
"Oh ho ho ho, I can't wait for you to suffer the same fate as me," Aria muttered under her breath, her tone half-joking but edged with genuine exasperation.
"What was that?" I asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Nothing," she said quickly
As Aria and I continued our conversation, the construction noise gradually faded away over the next thirty minutes. By then, I noticed the androids had shifted their focus, now sweeping the floor and hauling out large, heavy bags from the building.
Curiosity piqued, I leaned forward in my seat, my eyes catching sight of an android dressed in maid clothing, directing the others with precise hand gestures. There was something almost weird about her presence being here.
"By the way Aria..."I point at her "Who is the person wearing the maid clothing?"
"Ahh, you mean her?" Aria turned to follow my gaze, a hint of a smile creeping onto her face. "That's a caretaker-type model they sent weeks ago from high command. Her main goal is to take care of me, apparently."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Really? What's so special about her?"
"She's pretty cool, actually," Aria said, her enthusiasm evident. "She can do a lot of things—cooking, medical care, agriculture—you name it. She even has some combat training, which she's been teaching me."
She demonstrated a few swift karate moves with her hands
"I see… but that still doesn't explain the maid's clothing," I replied, crossing my arms.
Aria shrugged, her expression turning thoughtful. "I asked her the same question once. She said that humans tend to feel calm if their caretaker wears clothing that suits the environment. So, I guess that's why she wears maid clothing."
"Really? Well… I suppose she's not wrong?
As we continued to chat, slowly from the corner of my vision, I saw Captain Rose slowly making its way here.
When she finally arrived she stood upright and glanced at both of us.
"Sir Aria and Sir Jack, sorry for making both of you wait. You may now rest inside the room as the renovation is complete."
"Uh... thanks."
Captain Rose simply smiled a hint of warmth in her eyes. "That's our duty, sir. Oh, and before I forget, don't forget to bring one of these androids inside your room."
She gestured toward one of the androids, and I followed her gaze. My eyes landed on an android with vibrant orange hair and two goggles perched playfully on her head. The moment our eyes met, she waved enthusiastically, her smile bright and inviting.
I glanced back at Rose, raising an eyebrow in confusion. "What for?"
Rose's expression turned serious. "Well… we need to monitor your condition twenty-four-seven. What would happen if you suddenly stopped breathing in the middle of the night? We can't risk leaving you alone."
I opened my mouth to protest but found myself speechless, struggling to find a rebuttal. "I appreciate the concern, but I'm not a child. I can handle myself."
"Maybe," she replied, her tone firm yet understanding. "But with the current situation, we can't take any chances."
No no no no, the last thing I wanted in my bed was to see a doll watching me in my sleep.
"No thanks," I said, shaking my head.
"But, sir, she's a highly advanced android designed to assist humans. You won't even notice she's there," Rose insisted
I crossed my arms, my resolve hardening. "No means no. I prefer my privacy, and this conversation is over."
Rose let out a frustrated sigh. "Guh... fine. Sera, please show our creator to the room."
The maid android, Sera, bowed her head gracefully, her expression calm and composed, and began to lead our way.
As we began to walk away following Sera from behind, Aria nudged me with her elbow, a smug smile spreading across her face. "Told you."
"Shut up."
The moment I stepped inside the room, I was greeted by a blast of cold air. Air conditioning?
"Ahh, it feels great to be home!" Aria exclaimed, kicking off her shoes and heading further inside, clearly delighted.
I followed suit, removing my shoes before stepping in. The coolness of the room was a refreshing contrast to the hot air outside.
When we were all inside, Sera led the way, her demeanor calm and professional. We finally arrived at the two doors at the end of the staircase. "Sir Jack and Sir Aria, your rooms are directly across from each other," she said, gesturing to the doors.
She continued, "If you need anything, you may contact us by calling our names, and we will immediately come to assist you."
"Alright," I replied
"Yess! Finally!" Aria exclaimed, excitement lighting up her face. She darted toward her door and slipped inside, closing it with a soft thud.
Sera turned to me, her expression shifting slightly as she focused on me. "Before you go, Sir Jack, may I have your permission to check your forehead?"
"What? My injury?" I asked
"Yes, I felt… worry seeing the bandage on your forehead," she replied, her tone sincere.
"Sure, in my room," I said, opening the door and stepping inside.
Once inside, I glanced at the only mattress in the room, feeling an overwhelming urge to rest. I sank onto the bed, allowing the soft mattress to cradle me. The stress of the day began to melt away, and I could feel the tension in my shoulders easing.
Sera entered and carefully closed the door behind her, ensuring our privacy. she then slowly crouches down and begins to massage my forehead..?
"What are you doing?" I asked a hint of confusion in my voice.
"Checking your condition, sir. I can assess your health simply by touch," she explained, her fingers delicately resting against my skin.
"I see..."
I had no idea how she was checking my condition this way, but I could already feel a sense of relief creeping in since there was no need for heavy machinery involved in checking my health, just her delicate hand.
"Other than the wound on your forehead, there's nothing serious to worry about," she said, her voice calm and soothing. "You're in good shape—indeed, in good shape. But… I'll replace the bandage on your forehead with something cleaner. It'll help with the healing process."
I nodded, appreciating her thoroughness. It didn't take long for her to replace the bandage. She carefully peeled away the old one and applied a fresh one, her movements precise and gentle.
There was a little bit of pain as she worked, but after a few moments, the discomfort subsided, replaced by a sense of comfort from the new bandage.
"...Thanks"
"There is no need for it, sir, it's our duty."
If only the whole world had half of her determination to fulfill their duties. If that were the case, I bet the whole Legion would go extinct in just a single decade and maybe even finding the cure.
Too bad that did not happen. Instead we choose to run away from the problem instead of solving it.
As she slowly stood up, preparing to leave, a mischievous thought crossed my mind. She was treating me like a child, and I couldn't help but push back a little. Pulling the blanket up to my chin, I looked at her with a playful smirk. "...No goodnight kiss?"
Sera paused, her eyes widening slightly before a hint of confusion flickered across her face "Is that... necessary sir?"
"Of course it is necessary! After all, it improves sleep and other benefits well"
She tilted her head, a mix of curiosity and skepticism in her gaze. "Really? I've never encountered that in my programming. Are you certain it's scientifically valid?"
"Yes."
She studied me for a moment, her expression thoughtful. "Very well, if it's for your health." With a small nod, she leaned down and gently pressed her lips against my forehead, her touch surprisingly soft and tender. "There. Goodnight, Sir Jack,"
After take she left the room, I begin to quietly enjoying the small privilege that I was given.
...That was fun
