Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 Waking Up

The moment I woke up, I felt my head hurting and wanting myself wanting to puke.

Frantically, I pressed a hand over my mouth, desperately trying to stave off the nausea that threatened to spill forth at any moment.

In a panic, I tried Pulling the emergency lever at the top of the tube with my all might, With each pull my frustration mounted, amplifying the throbbing pain in my head.

Left with no other option, I summoned the last bit of my strength and pushed the glass barrier. With a final, desperate shove, the glass gave way, sending me tumbling to the ground below.

But I begin to groan in pain as all around my body begin to feel hurt.

..Ugh that hurts..should have known there was a side effect I did not know.

"Argh..." I groaned, the sound barely escaping my parched lips as I struggled to regain my composure. Slowly, as my vision began to clear, I scanned the unfamiliar surroundings, trying to distract myself from the discomfort.

Rusted metal, web cover part of the wall. And a strange smell filled the room that I can't help but be disgusted...

Despite the grim atmosphere, a sense of relief washed over me. The cryogenics must have worked, sparing me from the fate of becoming a frozen corpse trapped within the confines of the tube.

After having my vision back. I try to crawl onto the ground and force it to move, but my whole body is still paralyzed from the long period of cryogenics. I also have a hard time breathing as I repeatedly cough and my mind still needs some time to get used to it.

But I just need to give my body a stimulant to move. So I lay down on the front with my back against the floor while looking up at the roof. Waiting for my body to recover.

As I felt blood flowing through my body, one by one many parts of my body was able to move again. First was my arms as I tried to move my fingers one by one and then the next was my body, legs, and so on.

After feeling my body and being able to move I slowly try to stand up only to drop down to the floor again, and groan in pain. Seems My body has been weekend from the long period of sleeping. But even with all of that, I force my body to move while using the nearby wall and table as a hold up from falling I carefully navigate my way to the computer I used to know.

After what it feels like forever I manage to arrive at the computer, I sit down on the nearby chair and notice the computer currently has a bunch of wires coming out and a lot of dust around it. I wipe the dust off the computer with my hand blow wind from my mouth and turn it on, seeing if it still works.

There was a spark of electricity coming out, which spooked me for a second. But the computer begins to glow blue and a loads screen appears which slowly loads from 0%...19%...57%...and 99%.

It stuck at 99% for a few minutes.

Feeling nause and while bit impatient from the wait I try smacking the computer lightly and it finally reaches 100%. Always works.

I began checking the status of my bunker, inputting the command code and the system began checking the status of the bunker.

One by one the status of the bunker shows in order, so I began to read many parts of the status until I was a little weirded out by it.

Much of the system that shut down was in order. The first one was the supply of power, the next was other things that did not require electricity from Computers, light, and so on. The last but surely ending cryo genetic was the main battery power, which went offline just hours ago.

With no electricity supply, the rest of the systems required for cytogenetics went offline, including the Cooling system, temperature control, and so on.

No... It's more like the Bunker was doing whatever it could to make sure my pod stayed on forever. Like a fairy watching over me making sure the tube I was in before stays working, there is even proof that much of the Subsystem that requires the tube to be online still working.

Or it could be pure luck that I managed to hold on that long

And honestly? I don't think even luck can make me survive that hell.

However, out of all this information, one stands out from the rest of it. To my surprise, it was from the UN command frequency, most of the logs were a bit distorted including time and where it was sent.

However, I managed to read a few of the words even though most of the words were distorted.

"Project Gestalt Failed.." I mutter "And the rest of Replicant have rebels"

...So in the end, history repeats itself. With Project Gestalt failed humanity was finally given a death sentence and finally went extinct just like I predicted.

But there is one last message at the very least, that finally ends the report. One last message from the United Nations that the bunker managed to receive.

"WCS is at... safe level and the legion has been defeated."

That was the word that the computer said, by one of the androids responsible for Project Gestalt.

...I see. After hearing it I slide down on the chair while having a face of relief. So that's it huh... it's finally over, the nightmare that has haunted humanity since the dawn of mankind.

But as I read it I felt water pouring down on my face, which I let out a surprise sound. I try to wipe it out but it continues to pour down until I understand why it is happening.

Finally the freedom of going outside without worrying about WCS looming over my head. Legion attacking. And worrying about other humans plotting.

It's... Finally over. The nightmare that haunt me for the rest of my life is over.

When I managed to calm myself I let go of the computer and it suddenly blacked out catching me off guard. It appeared that the computer's final effort could muster before turning off.

With some of my strength, I lift my right arm and make a small salute to the computer, Thank you for your service computer. Rest now, your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Now it's my job to seek the truth outside the bunker.

And I immediately get to work and search if there is anything that can be used around the bunker.

After looking around here's what I managed to gather.

The food already expired, the guns and the spear were not working at all with rust all over the equipment, and the only thing that I could use was clothing which was dirty but I had no choice but to use it.

I was not even brave yet to be exhibited outside or be a Tarzan, but I still have some morals even if outside only contained animals or androids.

I plan to search more, and maybe try to fix the computer with the leftover part of a battery, but since my stomach is growling in hunger. I decided that my top priority was to head outside to seek food as soon as possible.

If I don't find food, I won't have the energy to continue living. And I'll be damn let starvation kills me.

As soon as I arrive at the familiar gate that leads me outside, I notice that the gate seems to have enough juice to open the gate with proof of the green light on the lever.

So I flip the lever down and let magic do its thing as the creek sound of the gate being opened.

I heard the gate slowly creak open, letting in a cool breeze. I patiently waited for the gate to fully open, but it stopped suddenly.

As the light from outside blinded my eyes, I cursed under my breath.

After my eyes adjusted to the brightness, I noticed the gate was not going to open any further. I decided to squeeze through the gap while shielding my eyes as best I could from the light.

Once I was outside I felt the touch of grass on my feet and the humming sound of birds.

I scanned the environment to see the familiar signs that I saw everywhere.

Huge Trees have covered the whole area, and the road that I always go to is now covered by grass. And soon my gaze fell on the nearby city in the distance and I saw it.

The city that I always knew of which always dark and empty, but this time it was full of plants covering the outer part of the city with light from the sun showing it.

I only had one last thing on my mind when I saw it.

... Finally, the world has ended.

ANDD CUT

...I am sorry that I have not uploaded a single chapter in 8 months.

It's just... too difficult to maintain a novel when it needs a lot of time and maintenance for my computer to keep using it and it's not cheap at all.

Well anyway, I won't say anything else since I plan to go back and upload chapters every Wednesday for this series for both Webnovel and Fanfic. Don't forget to support me on patreon.

Thanks for waiting and enjoy it.
