Chapter 4 - The ring that bonds them together

Julie was shocked by this question.

"H-How did you know? Julie managed to ask, she was immediately on guard and wondered if the taxi driver was a stalker.

"Heh, you've been staring at your finger", the taxi driver said pointing at Julie's hand, he was surprisingly observant.

"Because I'm married doesn't mean my problems are curved from it", Julie snapped, she didn't want anyone to take advantage of her failed marriage by mocking her.

"Miss, are you sure?", the driver asked mischievously smile.

Julie shot a glance at the taxi driver through the rearview and his smile disappeared, she didn't want a stranger to know about her problems but the truth was, she needed someone to pour her heart into, she didn't have that person right now, her mum was ill and would get a heart attack if she tells her about her marriage issues, her cousin whom was her second option was the main cause of her despair, she didn't have anyone but the taxi driver, who was ready to listen to her.

"well if you must know, you're right, I had an issue with my husband", she took a deep breath and dropped the bomb, "he cheated on me with my cousin", Julie looked at the taxi driver and saw he had an indifferent expression.

"It's not surprising", the taxi driver finally said with a straight face.

"What? Julie was confused, she had expected him to be shocked by the news but he was casual about it.

"I meant, a cheating man who is a failure doesn't care who he cheats with, even if it was his wife's sister, as long as he kills his boredom.", the taxi driver said not wanting to get misunderstood.

Julie nodded in agreement, she didn't know why, but she felt comfortable with the taxi driver, maybe it was because they were strangers, Julie thought to herself.

Julie felt a load lifted off her shoulders.

"Where would you like to go, Miss", the taxi driver asked, they've been talking for a while now, without knowing where they were headed.

Julie contemplated where she should go, she had wanted to go to her office since that was the place she had spent most of her life.

She thought for a while and said "Take me to a liquor store and then to this address", she handed a card to the taxi driver, she had an apartment near the office and she wanted to drink to forget her worries and frustrations.

The taxi driver stopped in front of the bar.

"wait for me, I'll pay extra", Julie said to the driver, she knew she was light-headed when it came to alcohol but she still wanted to get her head cleared.

The taxi driver nodded in agreement, Julie headed towards the entrance of the bar, and she paused to let out a heavy sigh before going in.

About thirty minutes had passed without any sign of Julie, and the taxi driver began to grow impatient, he finally came out of the car, he wanted to make sure she was ok and hadn't done anything stupid to herself or was being harassed by anyone because of her drunken state, just as he was about going in, he saw Julie staggering, she held a bag filled with alcohol to her chest like she was protecting a valuable item from a thief, she tried to walk steadily but her legs wasn't cooperating with her.

The taxi driver seeing her in this state hurriedly walks towards Julie, supporting her into the car.

Thankfully, Julie had given the driver her address before getting herself drunk, the taxi driver successfully got her to her apartment in one piece.

"Marlon!", Julie called her husband's name a dozen times, she looked at her ring and took it out angrily, "From today on ward I nullify the vows that bond us together" Julie said this and tossed her ring out the window.

The taxi driver was surprised at this, he hoped she wouldn't regret her decision when she sobered up.
