"Mrs. Henshaw, you're pregnant"
The doctor's words hit Julie like a moving truck, her eyes widened, "What?…did I just hear you right? P-pregnant? Me? She was dazed and surprised because she felt the doctor's words to be ridiculous.
"How could this be", she asked the doctor, she genuinely wanted to know how it was possible when she was sure she was on her safe day when she had sex with that man, except if she might have calculated wrongly or if the child was actually Marlon's
The thought of being pregnant for Marlon shook Julie's heart, she didn't want her child to be anything like him.
She would not be able to go on with the divorce if Marlon found out about her being pregnant for him and her mom would surely prevent her from divorcing him to prevent the child from having an incomplete family like hers.
Julie needed to find out if the child was Marlon's or not.
"Doctor, how many months gone am I", she asked with a trace of urgency in her voice
"You are almost two months gone"
On hearing this Julie's mind came to rest, she hadn't had sex with Marlon for over three months so she was certain it wasn't his.
So it's true that I calculated wrongly, I'm pregnant for that man, Julie muttered
"Why do you look surprised by the news, Mrs. Henshaw", the doctor asked with concern, she had expected Julie to be happy about being pregnant
"I have been married for three years but I haven't been pregnant at all, indeed, I didn't think about having a child but I had expected it to come but it didn't, so there were times when I thought I had issues getting pregnant".
"Have you ever gotten a fertility test done to confirm it?
"N-not at all, I just assumed all along", Julie nodded her head.
"Well, congratulations! This is your test result and it confirms your pregnancy, I would advise you to care for your child by keeping out of stress, eating well, and sleeping well" the doctor said with a smile handing Julie the test envelope.
"Thank you, doctor, I'll do well to care for myself, she said before leaving the doctor's office.
Julie left the hospital and drove to her apartment, Julie felt excited, the thought of being a mother gave her So much happiness that she couldn't even contain it, she was going to love her child with all of her heart without any care in the world.
Julie was financially stable enough to give her child all the best the world could offer but she wanted her child to know its father, she didn't want her child growing up like her, her father had left her Mother for another woman when she was still little and she had missed him so much, even though she grew up fine and well, the hole her father had left in her heart was still there, she had always crave a fathers figure in her life which she didn't get.
"I would make sure to love you so much that you wouldn't even miss your father", Julie said as she rubbed her flat tummy, she didn't know the gender of her child but she strongly believed it would be a boy but she didn't mind having a girl either, they would be loved regardless, she found it so funny how she thought she had a terminal disease when she was just pregnant, Julie smiled in her mind at the thought of it.
She was so delighted, her mother was the issue now, she didn't know how she would break the news of her being pregnant, she didn't know how she would to tell her that the child growing in her womb was for another man and not Marlon's, she knew her mother had hoped for a grandchild even though she didn't pressure her about it.
Her mother would most times call to inform her about a dream she had where Julie would be pregnant, the dream had come to reality but it wasn't for the man she was expected to be pregnant for.
"Once the divorce is finalized I will no longer be attached to that useless bastard", Julie told herself, she knew her mother would try to resolve things between Marlon and her once she knew about their issues so she needed to publically finalize their divorce before informing her about her pregnancy.
