Moment Ago...
The darkness was thick and suffocating, hiding everything from sight. But in the shadows, something lurked. A figure darker than the night, with blood-red eyes that pierced the gloom. It stared at the faint light that seeped through a crack in the wall, where the dark beast had been howling and slaughtering warriors moments ago. Now it was silent, as if waiting for something.
Under the red eyes of the dark entity, suddenly, hundreds of glowing runes swirled and danced on the beast's skin. They looked alive, pulsing and writhing like worms. The monster's dry flesh twitched and crawled as if trying to escape the arcane symbols. But the monster did not flinch or scream, although it felt all of it.
The runes grew brighter and faster, reaching a climax of intensity. Then they faded and vanished, leaving nothing behind. The red-eyed entity sighed. It was another failure. Nothing had changed. Nothing had happened.
