Chapter 18 - Failsafe

Following the confrontation back at Collin's apartment. Trisha and Elle headed back to Elle's SUV.

Not knowing what else to do than to let her best friend cry, Elle just soothed Trisha by patting her back.

When it seemed like there were no more tears left to cry, Elle began, "I'm not going to say I regret coming here, and I won't say I told you!"

Elle said, and Trisha looked at her, eyes swollen as a result of crying.

"I don't even know what to say!" Trisha shrieked before she burst into another round of tears.

"You know…", Trisha continued, " I should have suspected he was cheating on me!".

Elle noticed she was having a tough time at the moment, so she just let her say everything she needed.

"Breathe Trish, let it all out!", Elle said, soothing her back once more.

"I loved him, and, and I thought he was just being passive aggressive cause that was how he was. I should have known Elle. I really should have known!"

"It's okay Trisha, I understand, and I'm here whenever you need me. First off, let's leave this place! I don't know about you, but I do not want to breathe the same air those horrible people breathe!", Elle said before she started the engine.

"Use your seatbelt Trish, Collin doesn't deserve all the love you have and are willing to give!", Elle continued, trying subtly to cheer Trisha up.

Trisha who just got the shock of her life couldn't care less about the subtle joke in Elle's tone.

She just sniffled and buckled her seatbelt, after all, safety first.

They headed home to Trisha's residence where Elle, Paula and Trisha decided to binge watch a series.

For the night, they zoned every other thing out, focusing on the movie, and making sure to feel emotions that the movie probed.

The following day, Adriana and Collin had made sure to place a call to Dave, Adriana's father, to organize an emergency meeting later in the night.

They had earlier chosen a rendezvous point where each of them arrived separately.

They were cautious enough to drive themselves to the venue to avoid suspicion and curious eyes.

They met at a random bar downtown, where a lot of shady stuff happened.

"I hope you were careful enough to not be followed!?", Dave said as Adriana sat in the corner where he and Collin were already seated.

He of all people knew the risk attached to the moves they had been making.

"I'm surprised you wouldn't know I would be fashionably late!", Adriana retorted, sitting properly on the leather seat.

"Why choose a run down bar!?", Collin asked in disgust as he sat properly, he thought he felt something crawling on his skin.

"Well, this isn't exactly friendly, plus we need to be off grid!", Dave replied.

He continued, "now to the agenda of the evening!" he paused.

"How could both of you be stupid enough to be caught by Trisha, the daughter of the woman in particular!" Dave whisper yelled.

"Well, we were in my place, plus I don't even know how they got my address!", Collin sighed, not wanting to remember the look on Trisha's face.

"They? What does he mean?!", Dave whisper yelled again, shifting in his seat.

This time Adriana replied, "She came with the friend!"

"I mean it ended well, so..!", Collin drawled, winking at Adriana.

"You do realize I'm sitting here, and she's my daughter?!", Dave asked.

He continued, "That aside, we need to move out plans if they have already found out about, well, both of you!".

"So when do we leave?!", Adriana asked, her mind set on the amount of vacations she's about to have.

"We leave soon, in less than a month. You might want to start getting your affairs in order!", Dave said.

"My affairs…", Collin drawled, interrupted by a call.

"I have to take this!", he said before leaving the table.

"We need to talk!", Dave said when Collin left the table.

"But, isn't Collin supposed to be here!?", Adriana asked, confused.

"No, just us, about Alex!", Dave hinted.

"I have to go guys! But text me if I should know anything important!", Collin said as soon as he came back to the table.

It turns out that Collin was supposed to be dropped at this stage of the plan. The father and daughter never intended to travel with him.

Infact, Adriana didn't have any real feelings for Collin. But, with the plan with Alex already in the mud, Dave had a much better use for Collin.

"Alex is off the board now!", Dave said.

"But, but I can still get him to like me!" Adriana insisted.

"Oh dear daughter, you fail to see the bigger picture. We do not need feelings!", Dave said, staring his daughter intently in the eye.

"We are done with Alex!"

"Okay dad!", Adriana said, trusting the moron she called a father.

"I have a much better plan. Collin, your supposed boyfriend will come with us!"

"But I thought he wasn't supposed to be a part of the plan from here on out!?"

"I know that, but since your meeting with Alex failed, we need Collin to be the scapegoat in case anything happens!", Dave said.

"I'm listening!" Adrian said, scooting closer to hear the plan.

"You have to marry him!", Dave said, dropping a massive bomb on Adriana.

"What, no!", Adriana objected.

"Like I said my love, you fail to see the bigger picture!"

"Marrying him means trapping him into this situation. If things go south, I orchestrated that he takes the fall, and not us!", Dave said.

"Okay, that seems to make sense! But for that to happen, won't he have to actually marry me!?", Adriana wondered.

"I have that covered, all you just need to do is accept the proposal and act like you love him!", Dave said.

"Alright dad, let me know whatever the next phase is!", Adriana said before leaving.

Dave plans to talk Collin into marrying his daughter. However, it's only a failsafe for him and Adriana.

A backup In case something happens. Collin was going to serve as their bullet proof vest.

Collin expecting Adriana later that night must have seemed delusional to the lady in question as she wasn't even heading to his house. She also wasn't going to the mansion, rather, she took a turn on the next junction, heading towards a quiet street.

Turning off her engine, Adriana headed towards the front door.

Stepping on the porch, she rang the door bell, an unknown man opening the door.

"Missed me?!", Adriana asked before slamming the door shut behind her.
