MJ. Harborfront University. October 1998. 4:48 p.m.
"That's all, and see you at our next class."
I packed my stuff and left the room. I was walking on my way out of the campus when the right side of my pocket vibrated.
My phone.
I grabbed it and look at the message. It's Maddy.
"Are you coming? Melrose at 8"
Shit. I almost forgot. Ugh. Should I? I mean, there is no harm in going to a party, right? It's not like I'm at risk or anything, I'm just a big deal out of it. Like. I'm some kind of kid. I need to grow up.
"I'm going, just rest for a bit and I'll be on the way"
I sent it and I immediately got a reply.
"Sweet, wear something sexy and show off. First ever frat party must be memorable for u... see u xoxo"
I laugh at Maddy's reply. I hope it better be memorable. I continue walking out of the campus. But then again, I paused my walking as I reached the streets. I looked up and admire the view.
I sighed.
The sun is setting. One thing for sure is the sunset here in Boston is beautiful. The scenery blending in perfectly with the people around it. Simple moments like this are just breathtaking. I wonder if someone is beautiful enough to take my breath away.
I continue to walk to my dorm.
MJ. Dorm. October 1998. 7:23 p.m.
A quiet and dark place. I've been here before. It's not like this scene is new to me. I have a fair share of my solitude and I enjoy them, more importantly I'm at peace when I'm alone... or am I?
Just because I'm used to it, doesn't mean I like it.
Where's the light?
I'm scared.
Someone help me.
All of a sudden, my phone rang. My eyes open widely and grab the phone beside me. I was dreaming again.
"Hello?" I asked while rubbing my eyes.
"MJ!! are you ready to party?? I'm having all glamed up and pretty. Don't forget to wear lipgloss." It's Jess.
"Party? Oh uh.." I pause for a moment at look at my clock. Shit, it almost 8. god, I fell asleep.
"At Melrose..." Jess said.
"Uh yeahhh, I'm getting ready as well and... ficing my make up hahahah" I started making excuses while I made my way out of the bed.
"See you at the party later, Jess. Maddy too. I can't quite get this eyeliner hehehe" I hanged up immediately and undress all my clothing.
I took the faster shower ever and dry my hair as quick as possible. Ugh, this curls. I'll just clip them and focus on them later. I should pick up something to wear.
"No, this is not it. No, too formal. No. No. Ugh! God! Don't I have anything decent in here" I throw all the clothes I was carrying out of frustration. I have nothing to wear. I might be late to party. Well, whatever.
Okay, I should really calm down. What if I just wear a casual outfit? I mean, atleast I looked decent. I grabbed my white tank top and straight jeans in my closet and wear it.
It's perfect. Nothing wrong with being simple and basic.
I quickly grabbed my makeup pouch and start putting on makeup. I decided to put on a simple yet eye-catching makeup. This is how I described it. I stared at the mirror and opened my red lipstick. I fix it for any smudges.
Beautiful. Red lipstick is always a good choice. I wear some gold jewelry, put on some cologne, grab my keys, wallet, phone, the red lipstick, and a small bag to store it all. I check in the mirror one last time.
Okay, I'm satisfied with my look. I went to my front door and wear my black converse as usual. I tied the laces, and went out of my dorm and lock it up. I check the time on my phone.
7:57 p.m.
I better start running. This time I took the elevator, since I'm in a rush. I sprinted my way out of the building. When I got out, I hailed a taxi cab and immediately went inside. Here's to my allowance.
"To Melrose St., sir." I said to the driver and he nodded.
I can't believe I'm going to first ever frat party. I know I'm breaking mom's rule, I still clearly remember what she said to me, when she dropped me off to college.
"No frat party. Never. If I heard you went to party, I'm sending your ass back to Sacramento."
I can still hear her voice. Sorry, mom, I'm responsible enough to go to a party. I hope Jess and Maddy are already there. All I have to do is enjoy the night and let loose. I deserve this, I guess.
MJ. Melrose. October 1998.
I arrived. the party is already starting and... there's a lot of people. I paid the taxi and headed out.
Wow... this is really a party. The lights are all flashing, different types of people from all around the area, alcohol, cigarettes, and everything else. I made my way to the mansion and saw two beautiful girls that are wearing a black and red dress.
Jess and Maddy.
"Wow you guys really glammed up, pretty as always, huh?" they look at me and smiled.
"MJ!" both of them said.
"We're so glad you came!" Maddy said and hugged me.
"Me too, but I was hoping, you should also wear a dress." Jess said, and look at my outfit.
"Sorry boo, I just don't want to draw a lot of attention. I might even outshine Cindy Crawford" I replied sarcastically.
"You wish" Jess replied, we all laugh.
"Come on now, Jess. Let her be, it's her first frat party. Let her be comfortable, okay? I think you're gorg babe" Maddy added, and I smiled at her compliment.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's enter and enjoy!" Jess said.
"Yeah! Let's partyyyy!!!" Maddy screamed and the three of us were hyped up, and ready for battle. Except, I'm also feeling a bit of anxiety. My heart is beating fast from excitement and nervousness. Relax, Mary Jane, have fun at the party, and just unwind, for goodness' sake.
The three of us all held hands as we enter the mansion and to start the party. I hope nothing goes wrong and went accordingly to what I imagined. Please, let this be a fun night. Here's to finally being an adult.
