Chapter 33 - Yasmin (2)

I stood up and walked over to another chair at the table so that I was sitting in front of her.

When she saw me sit down, she couldn't help moving back a bit as if she didn't want to sit with me. However, she stopped herself in the end and she waited to see what I wanted to talk about.

It would be a lie to say that there wasn't a part of me that wasn't hurt when I saw her pull back like this, but I kept it deep down inside of me.

After sitting down in front of her, I said, "You don't want to see Veronica end up with me, right?"

When Yasmin heard this, she immediately revealed an ugly expression before saying, "You! Are you just insulting me at this point!"

I shook my head and said, "I'm not doing that, I really do want to talk to you about something serious."

Yasmin looked like she really wanted to punch me in the face, but she held back in the end as she slowly said, "Yes, I'd rather eat a jar of worms than see the young miss end up with you."

I gave a nod before saying, "Then let's work together to prevent that."

Yasmin revealed another ugly look as she said, "You! I've really misjudged you! I never thought that you would be so callous with the young miss' feelings!"

I just sat there without saying a thing, waiting for her to calm down.

When she finally calmed down, I said, "Just hear me out first, alright?"

Yasmin still looked like she wanted to punch me…no, it was worse than that.

At this point, if looks could kill, she definitely would have killed me with this glare.

But fortunately, looks couldn't kill in this reality, so she could only keep glaring at me as she waited for me to speak.

It really was scary seeing her like this, but I took a deep breath and said, "It isn't that I don't respect her feelings, but we both know that this is for the better."

Yasmin deeply knitted her brows when she heard this before she asked in a slightly confused voice, "What do you mean?"

I said in a calm voice, "You know what's happening right now with her, her battle against the Blood Lord."

Yasmin slowly gave a nod though she still had a confused look on her face.

This was basic knowledge that anyone who knew anything about Veronica knew. She was just confused why I was bringing this up.

Seeing that nod, I continued, "You also know about what happened when she saw me in danger last time, right?"

Yasmin gave a slower nod this time as she looked at me with an angry look, as if she was blaming me for what happened last time.

I just ignored this as I said, "Then I'm sure that you can imagine what would happen if we were to have a closer relationship. Would she be able to control her feelings if I was ever in danger? That would just put Veronica in more danger."

Yasmin narrowed her eyes to look at me before saying, "You could just stay out of trouble, or…I could just take care of you now. I could make it so that no one would know what happened to you and make you disappear forever."

It would be a lie to say that there wasn't a part of me that was scared when I heard this since I could tell how serious she was.

But I shook my head and said, "You wouldn't do that because you know how much that would hurt Veronica and you would never do anything to hurt her."

Yasmin narrowed her eyes even more to look at me with a gaze like she hated me to her guts, but she didn't follow through with it.

Instead, Yasmin suddenly asked me, "Do you not think the young miss is pretty? Is there something that you're dissatisfied with?"

I was caught off guard when I heard this, but I shook my head and said, "No, she's very pretty and I'm sure that she would be a very good wife."

Yasmin once again looked at me with eyes filled with hatred when she heard this, but I ignored it as I continued to say, "But this is about keeping her safe and I can't let my personal feelings get in the way of that. I know that the only way to really keep her safe is to keep her at an arm's length until her war with the Blood Lord is over."

This time, I narrowed my eyes to look at Yasmin as I said, "I'm sure you know how important this is as well and how dangerous it is for her."

Yasmin looked right into my gaze and stared at me in silence for a bit before suddenly saying, "What do you want me to do?"

I gave a nod before saying, "Just help me stop her if she wants to confess and help me keep her away if she tries to get close. Though I'm sure that you'll already do this, I just hope that you'll work with me from now on."

Yasmin once again narrowed her eyes to look at me before saying, "I hate you."

"I know." I said with a faint smile.

"Fine, I'll help you." Yasmin said with a sigh in the end.

I gave an appreciative nod, but before I could say anything else, Veronica had already come back with drinks in her hands.

She had bought a total of three of them, one for each of us.

It seemed that she did care about Yasmin as well.

Seeing that we were sitting close together like this, she couldn't help asking, "What's going on here?"

Yasmin suddenly revealed an aggrieved look and got up to hug Veronica as she said, "Young miss, he just harassed me. He came up to me and started asking me weird questions, as well as trying to touch me."

Veronica immediately revealed a serious look, but the one she scolded wasn't me.

She scolded Yasmin, "He wouldn't do something like that, stop playing around."

Yasmin revealed an unhappy look when she heard this, but she didn't say anything else.

But then I heard Veronica mutter something, "He doesn't even touch me when I give him the chance, how could he touch someone else?"

Both Yasmin and I clearly heard this as she gave me another glare, but I chose to ignore it all as I gave her a look that said, "It's your job to stop it."

So Yasmin went to try and distract Veronica.

When I saw her acting this way, I couldn't help feeling that I had finally succeeded.

It was different from Yan Ling's Four Sacred Beast Guardians.

This time, I had gained an actual shield.
