I was surprised since I had been expecting a much angrier response, but I slowly said, "I'm fine."
Even though I said this, Yan Huang didn't stop as he let go of my face and went around me to check if there were any injuries on me.
Other than a few scratches from being thrown from the tree, I really was alright.
Only after making sure that there were only scratches did Yan Huang calm down and let out a sigh of relief.
After he calmed down, he revealed a serious look as he asked, "What are you doing here?"
Then as if he realized something, he said, "How are you even able to see me right now?"
I revealed an awkward look as this was the response that I had been expecting.
I awkwardly said, "I have no idea what you mean. I just saw you leaving the school when I went to the bathroom and I followed you as your best friend."
Then I quickly changed my tone into an accusatory one as I said, "I think that I should be asking you what's going on here. I just saw you fighting this spider monster, I don't think I have to explain anything."
I used the famous technique of turning the questioning back on him to try to get out of this situation.
But what I was really hoping for was…
Usually when a friend found out the main character's secret in this situation, they would knock them out and then erase their memories!
I was hoping that Yan Huang would do that with me, so I was trying to act as hysterical as possible.
But Yan Huang didn't do that.
Instead, he revealed an awkward look and said, "Well, it's a long story…"
His voice trailed off and it seemed like he didn't know what to say.
This wasn't what I wanted to see!
I wanted you to knock me out so that I could keep being a friend character!
There was an awkward silence that filled the air, but that was broken when…
With a flash of silver light, there was this strange little creature that appeared.
With its horns and scales, it seemed like some kind of qilin, but it was much smaller than what a normal qilin would look like. It even looked like it was super deformed, just like some kind of mascot.
"What are you doing? You know that you shouldn't involve normal people in this. All you have to do is knock him out and erase his memories."
For a cute little mascot, its words were quite violent…
But I didn't mind since this was what I wanted to happen. I even wanted to hug and kiss this little qilin for helping me.
However, Yan Huang revealed a difficult look when he heard this.
After another bit of silence, he said, "Lin Lin, I can't do this to him. He's my best friend and…"
His voice trailed off again and there was a blush that appeared on his face which really seemed strange. It was almost as if he was trying to say…but Yan Huang was a guy!
No, it couldn't be that!
The little qilin narrowed its eyes to look at Yan Huang as if it was scrutinizing him.
Then it suddenly said, "If you don't do this, then you'll get him involved in this matter and you'll be putting him in danger. If you really care about him, wouldn't it be better if he didn't know anything for his own safety?"
Yes!
You tell him Lin Lin!
Now do it!
Hit me with the memory erasing power!
But Yan Huang still had a look of difficulty on his face, as if he couldn't bring himself to do this.
After a long while, he finally said, "But you saw the power that I was able to bring out just now because I wanted to protect him. If I have something that I want to protect, then I feel that I could bring out more of my power."
The little qilin didn't say anything this time since it knew that he was right.
The little qilin had seen the burst of silver energy that Yan Huang had released in his rage, so it knew that this was indeed possible.
But this meant getting someone who wasn't related to this caught up in this.
This was not something that it wanted to do…
In the end, the little qilin turned to look at me and asked, "How do you feel about Yan Huang?"
I was completely caught off guard when I heard this, but as the best friend character…shouldn't I say…
"He's my best friend, what else would he be?"
The little qilin once again narrowed its eyes to look at me before saying, "Just a friend, huh?"
Yan Huang's face turned red before coming forward to grab the little qilin in his hands.
The little qilin easily made its way out of Yan Huang's hands and floated in the air in front of Yan Huang to say, "Fine, you can let him keep his memories. But make sure to protect him well."
Yan Huang revealed an excited look before suddenly revealing a look of pain and holding his chest.
When I saw this, I immediately came forward to ask, "Are you alright?"
Yan Huang said with a nod, "Don't worry, I'm fine."
Before I could say anything, Yan Huang started running off while holding his chest.
As he ran off, he said, "Help me cover in class. Tell the teacher that I went home because I didn't feel well."
I didn't know how to respond to this and by the time that I reacted Yan Huang had already run off.
But before leaving, he said, "I'll explain everything another time!"
When he was gone, I couldn't help giving a sigh and saying, "Just what is going to happen now? Am I going to lose this friend position?"
But I also didn't hang around for long because I found a clue to the next main character.
There were some bats that were flying out in the open.
