Richard arrived at his company and he was getting late for the meeting with the board members. He walked to the elevator with long strides. He walked into it with a lady. He looked straight down at his phone without looking up.
Claire arrived at the headquarters of the Downs enterprise and she didn't want to miss the CEO she was to interview because of his tight schedule so she went as early as she could.
For two days the interview has been postponed and she hoped to meet him this time for her weekend programs research.
Claire hurried into the elevator almost bumping into a tall man, she was deep in thought and didn't know what to except from the interview and she was an hour and thirty minutes early.
Coupled with her anxiety, she was annoyed with how she started her morning. She had woken up with a slight bump on her head after hitting her head on the wall and after she was stuck in an annoying traffic congestion and her car was bumped into by another impatient driver.
Her nose sniffed the scent of her companion in the elevator and her head snapped to look at the man at her right. Her heart slipped to the floor in confirmation of her worries. She set her eyes on the man who continued to look ahead.
Although, he could sense her gaze on him but he ignored not looking at her and when the elevator stopped. He stepped out of it, walking away. Claire's heart thumped in her chest.
"Did he not see me?" Claire murmured shocked. Though, she wasn't supposed to be surprised as she had a hunch yet she found herself surprised.
Richard walked out of the elevator, annoyed with the lady he encountered at the elevation who kept staring at him untill he walked away. He had been too irritated to look up and check who he was though his intuition told him to.
The day ended with Claire trying to make sure she never crossed path with Richard again but she thought to do the interview with one of the directors of the firm.
Claire closed the door behind her as she entered her apartment. She turned on the light and she shrieked seeing the door to her room open and Dove walked in.
"Why didn't you switch on the lights?" She asked her best friend with a look.
Dove walked to the sofa and sat down with her legs crossed, drinking milk.
She was pleased that she had successfully startled Claire.
"You are finally home, I waited for almost an hour before I decided to take milk" She said and then paused.
"What took you so long?"
Claire made a dramatic sigh while Dove gazed at her with an interested look. She placed the empty glass which was containing milk on the table and focused her full attention on her best friend, Claire.
"Traffic." Claire simply said before continuing; "Alot happened today, Dove."
"What happened?" Dove asked.
Claire plopped down on the sofa and flung her hand on Dove's face in exaggerated manner.
Dove resisted the urge to roll her eyes and walked away to the water dispenser and poured out water for Claire.
Claire collected the water holding the water in her hand before she broke the silence.
"I met him." She said.
"Who?" Dove asked, her eyes narrowing with suspicion.
"I saw Richard. I was standing very close to him but..."
"Woah! "
"I knew it would happen sooner or later. You will always cross path and you know that."
"I know but I wasn't expecting it to be this soon."
"I met him in the elevator but he was engrossed with his phone so he didn't look up to notice me."
Dove stared at Claire, surprised at what she said. Her friend and her ex lover had been very close but he didn't even notice her.
"I just need a bath. I would be fine, " Claire said but Dove was sure that she was not fine. She knew how Claire loved and still loves Richard.
Dove nodded and watched her walk towards the room.
The next few days, Claire managed to get Richard from her mind as she prepared herself for the interview, the interview with the popular and one of the biggest company in the country, the interview was for her to collect a little information on the corporation, it's CEO, and board of directors.
The receptionist directed her to the front of the CEO's office.
The receptionist pressed the bell and it rang once, she opened the office.
Claire took a deep breathe and followed the receptionist into the office.
The office was very spacious and well decorated with numbers of award decorating it.
She but her lips dreading the when the CEO would look up.
She could have had her boss give the Job to another journalist bout she didn't want to seem lazy.
The CEO did not look up from his work untill they walked Infront of his desk.
He looked up finally and their eyes locked. The already strict looking CEO grew more hostile when he set eyes on her and recognized.
"Good morning," She stammered. Her confidence flying out of the window. He calmly gazed at her then his eyes raked her up and down.
"What are you doing here?" He asked coldly. His tone not matching the look in his eyes.
She didn't even know what to say.
"I am here for an interview..."
She trailed off with she couldn't handle the hostile look on his face. Her heart shattered when a sneer came to settle on his face.
She let out a sigh, trying to compose herself.
The receptionist walked out leaving them alone. She wondered if the CEO had forgotten about the schedule of the interviewer.
Claire became more unnerved after the departure of the receptionist. She knew she shouldn't have come here but she did anyway and she was going to face it.
