There was a red sports car waiting us when we walked out of the hotel.
My jaw dropped open.
How many cars did he have?
Edward opened the passenger door and signaled for me to get in.
"Are you just gonna stand there, or are you going to get into the car?" He asked.
"Is this your car? It looks so expensive. I am so afraid to even touch it. It might break. I think it would be better, if I don't get in." I said nervously.
The afternoon sun was shining brightly and the reflection on the shiny car was blinding.
Edward didn't respond.
He just stood there.
With his arms crossed.
And an amused look on his face.
"Fine. You can stop smirking now." I pouted.
"I can't help it, sweetheart. Your reactions are too funny. So what was it that scared you, huh? The fact that it is an expensive car, or the fact that you are not used to sitting in an expensive car?"
I rolled my eyes.
Must he always have an attitude?
And the insults… Ugh! He was really annoying. I wondered what it felt like working for him. I am sure his employees must hate him.
I walked over to him and was about to get in the car when he stopped me.
"No. Not that way. You can't enter from the side. This is not a fucking school bus. It's a Lamborghini."
I groaned.
What was wrong with him?
"So, where should I get in?" I asked.
"From the other side, you idiot. You sit on the left, and the driver sits on the right." He said, in a condescending manner.
I walked over to the other side.
And sat down.
"Now close the door." Edward said, as he got in from the other side.
I closed the door and looked at the dashboard.
This car was so futuristic.
I had never been inside a car like this before.
And it didn't help that Edward was sitting next to me.
He smelled heavenly.
He must have had used some expensive cologne.
I bet, the bottle of cologne, itself was worth more than a million dollars. his scent and let out a sigh.
I could feel myself shaking.
I was nervous. Nervous, to be sitting next to a handsome billionaire, inside his million dollar car. My mind was going haywire and I just couldn't sit still.
"Bella." Edward snapped his fingers in front of my face.
"Can you stop fidgeting? You are making me nervous. And you are scaring the poor seat. Just sit still. Can you do that for once?" He asked.
"Sorry." I whispered and bit my lower lip.
I think Edward could sense how nervous I was, because he suddenly stopped driving and pulled over to the side.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Just shut up for a minute." He said, as he turned and stared at me.
His blue eyes looked deep into mine.
He tucked a strand of my hair behind my ear and then he took his right hand and placed it on the nape of my neck.
"Look, you are not my date. We are not lovers. We are not even friends. All we are is a business deal. Nothing else. Do you understand that? The main reason I asked you to accompany me, is because of my father. He…" Edward trailed off. I could see a sudden change in his expression.
His face had darkened.
It looked like he was holding back a lot of emotions.
"He what?" I asked.
He took a deep breath and sighed.
"He's threatening to disown me." He said.
"Disown you?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Yes. Disown me and kick me out of the company." He let out a frustrated groan. It was obvious that he had been keeping his emotions bottled up inside of him for a long time.
"I am his only heir. My father has built this company from scratch. He expects me to continue his legacy. All that stuff. If I show up with a date, maybe, I can stall him for a while. Make him think I have a girlfriend and I am capable of getting married and carrying on the family line. So, don't worry about anything. Just act normally and keep me company." He said.
"I didn't think that you were the type of guy, who was so scared of his father. I thought that you were this confident CEO, who could take on the world." I teased.
"Well, believe me when I say, that my father is the devil himself. He has a lot of power. He can ruin me and my career with a snap of his fingers. So, yeah, I am a little scared."
I swallowed.
If Edward was this rich and he was scared of his own father, I could only imagine, how much money his dad had.
Maybe he really was the devil.
"So, are you ready to do this? You can still back out." Edward said.
"No, I can do this." I said.
"Good." He smiled.
And then, he did something that I was not expecting.
He leaned in and kissed me.
"What the hell, man. What the fuck was that?" I pushed him away and covered my mouth.
"Even though you are acting as my fake girlfriend, we still have to sell it. We need to put up a convincing act. This is a business deal. And this is the contract. So, get used to it. We will have to kiss and act like a couple in front of everybody."
"But..What of Daniel? I still love him." I stammered.
"Exactly. Us being together will make him jealous and he will take you back. Isn't that what you want? It's a win-win situation for both of us."
"Oh."
"So?" He asked.
"Yes. I agree. Let's do this."
After getting my consent, he drove off.
The party was taking place on an exclusive yacht.
The sun was beginning to set and the water was a golden orange color.
The yacht was huge.
Edward parked the car and got out.
"Ready, sweetheart." He said, as he held the car door open.
"Yes. Yes, I am."
