Jay woke up the next morning, in a good mood, he was ecstatic, he even hopped to the bathroom from happiness.
He was happy they were finally getting somewhere on the case.
After making breakfast, he decided to watch a show while eating, when he was done, he decided to get started on investigating Joseph Gregg.
Just when he was about to call a colleague of his to scan the emblem he had seen on the floor, and on the back of the Id card, his phone suddenly rang.
It was a call from his sister, Cassandra. He picked it up, and was surprised to hear the usually chirpy and bubbly, talking in a rather sad tone. She had called to inform him about the situation that was going home, which left Jay utterly in shock.
By the time he had got himself back together, he had already packed all his stuff in his trunk and had started heading towards Sagos.
He immediately called his boss, and started pleading for a leave, which his boss, after hearing how serious the situation was, finally let him go.
His sister had called to inform him about their parents' divorcing, and that their little sister, Naomi, had just been diagnosed with early stage lymphoma.
Jay was on the verge of tears while he tried his best to get to his family home as soon as possible.
When he finally got there, he rushed to the wooden door of the big white house, and right after the secondknock, the door flew right open, the scene he witnessed after entering the living room left him heartbroken.
His mother and father who seemed like there was nothing in the world that could ever draw them apart, were not wearing their wedding rings that they held so dear to each other, and right in front of them were the divorce papers, Jay had figured they were contemplating on signing.
But that wasn't the only thing that broke Jay's heart, right next to them, on the couch, scratching some dry red patches on her body, while Cassandra was trying to get her to stop.
Jay didn't know where to start first, condole his sister or try to convince his parents to stay together.
He later settled on consoling his sister Naomi first, and after she had fallen asleep, decided to talk with his parents.
He called for a meeting with the both of them in the living room, and only began talking till they had both settled comfortably on the sofa.
A million questions were running through Jay's head at that moment, questions like what could've happened between them, that made them even consider a divorce, were they not concerned about Naomi's condition? If they were concerned, then why would they be thinking about signing divorce papers.
With all these questions swirling around Jay's mind, there was one thing he was sure of, Naomi's condition was probably the only thing holding the two together.
Jay finally decided to break off the ice by asking in a weak voice, "So.. Why do you guys want to get a divorce?" "Well, she keeps nagging me" Jay's father said, and "Well, I just don't feel a connection anymore, you know unlike the old days responded Jay's mum.
"So let me get this straight, you guys want to get a divorce because she nags you, and you suddenly don't feel a connection, when you guys were, doing just fine, in fact more than fame last month?!" exclaimed Jay, sounding frustrated and hurt.
"Listen listen young man, I will not have you talk to my wife and I that way, okay? It is our decision and not yours." Mr Sanders replied annoyed. "if there's nothing else you'd like to say, then I'm going to bed now, Honey, you coming? " added Mrs. Sanders, "Ofcourse sweetheart, good night, and uh.. try to get some sleep Jay" Mr Sanders replied while patting Jay on his shoulder on his way out of the living room.
When the two had gone, Jay collapsed unto the living room couch, with his mind simply plain and empty of thoughts. He soon got up, and went to his room upstairs, and went to sleep that night while pondering on his parents' divorce and his sister's condition, trying not to cry himself to sleep.
Utterly torn apart, he drifted into a deep sleep, in an attempt to drive away his sorrow.
