Chapter 4 - Four lands II

Davina woke up in a dark, cold room all alone. Her head was aching and the familiar voices she was now hearing was making her headache worse. "Ryan?", she said as she heard the voice again, this time,it was fading away. The voice sounded like her brother's, there was no argument on that but, hadn't he died? Davina suddenly got of the cold ground and started to run towards the direction of the voice. She ended up in a dark alley which she wasn't familiar with. Not that she was familiar with this place, right now, right then, she wanted to do one thing only: to find her brother. "Ryan, Ryan!", she shouted as she neared the voice. She felt beyond weak but she was ready to risk anything to save her little brother, the only family she had left. A bright smile appeared on her face as she could finally see her brother, who was standing on the other side of the alley, with his back to her.

Davina happily ran to her brother, feeling her soul returning to her body. She halted when the boy turned. It was really her brother! He was alive, she thought. However, her eyes widened at the next thing she saw. Blood began to ooze from the boy and flood the alley. The alley began closing in on Davina as she struggled to not get washed away by the pool of blood. She did not know what was going on, what to do. She panicked when the door knob she was holding onto began to slip from her grasp. This wasn't her brother but, the next thing the boy said gave her second thoughts, "Why did you leave me, sister? You said you would look out for me but, you let me die!", the boy screamed out painfully. "I am sorry Ryan-", Davina shouted back with teary eyes. She was emotionally drenched and couldn't hold onto the door knob anymore. "I am very sorry ",she whispered as she got washed away. With that, everything went blank.

"You think she will wake up? She has been like this for three days, unmoving. I would have said she was dead if it wasn't that she was still breathing ",Marcus noted. It had been three days since they brought the girl into the mansion but, she hadn't even moved a finger. The doctor said she would need to rest for some hours because of the trauma she had experienced. But who knew a few hours would turn into days? "She must be hungry", Ellen said, ignoring Marcus. "She must have gone through a lot",she continued. "How would you know-". "What are you even doing here. The doctor said she needed rest. I doubt that would happen if you stay with your blabbering mouth", Ellen replied, glaring at the man. Ellen was the mansion's butler, Michael's niece. She had moved into the mansion at six when her parents were killed by deranged vampires. She lived with her uncle and assisted him with his duties in the mansion. The Vizier was kind enough to let her live with her uncle until she turned 16 and got her own room. Living in here for a long time, she had come to know the Vizier's right-hand man. Even though he ranked higher than her in terms of status, she talked to him the way she pleased because, the man was just annoying at times. Marcus wasn't bothered by her timely coldness towards him, he rather enjoyed it. He had watched her grow into a beauty, and had taken a liking towards her. "Don't be too mean, Elle. It hurts when a lover says mean things to you", Marcus faked a hurtful expression on his face as he dramatically clenched his hand on his chest. Ellen just rolled her eyes. This man, despite his good looks, was sometimes too much to handle, she thought. "What? Are you thinking about me?", Marcus sneered. "You wish."

Right then, the Vizier entered. "What are you two doing here?", he asked slightly narrowing his eyes at them. He walked and stood beside the bed with the unconscious girl on it, gazing down at her. "I came in to bring her some soup, just in case she woke up",Ellen replied, now smirking at Marcus, readying herself to hear whatever lame excuse he would give. Marcus just rolled his eyes at her and said," I came to check if she was still alive." Ellen scoffed at his words. "Sure", she said. "Enough, you two. Marcus, go wait for me downstairs. Ellen,go to the library. I brought the book you wanted for your spell", he said calmly. "Thank you, Sir Ronald", Ellen said and bowed her head. Marcus narrowed his eyes at her and said," I got you a beautiful doll on your 19th birthday, and I didn't even get a 'thank you'". "I would have said thank you, if that doll wasn't for voodoo ", Ellen retorted back. "What? You're a witch. I thought witches loved those things",Marcus replied, which made Ellen glare harder at him. "You are soo ungrateful-". "What are you still doing here?", Ronald asked. "I'll keep this here", Ellen said and placed the bowl of soup on the table beside the bed and left with Marcus.

When the duo left, Ronald took a seat on the bed beside the girl. Tears began to flow from the girl's eyes as it seemed she was having a nightmare. Placing his hand on her forehead, a reddish glow moved from his hand to her forehead before he moved his hand away from her.

Davina's eyes flattered minutes later. She slowly moved her body to sit onto the bed. After glancing at the room for some minutes, she realized this room wasn't the one she was in. Was it a dream? It felt real, the pain and sorrow did. That wasn't a dream, it was more like a nightmare. Coming back to reality, she glanced around again, not knowing where she was. Everything in the room looked exquisite and expensive. The windows were huge with sea-blue curtains which seemed to be made from expensive linen. Davina felt warm with the huge white blanket on her and the fire from the chimney. She wanted to sink into the bed and cover her body with the warm blanket, keeping her away from the cold world outside. But could she rest when her family was gone. Where was she anyway? She remembered the man..... the man who had called her a black witch. Davina's clenched her fists as she remembered what the man said. She had blacked out after that. Where was she? Whose house was this? Did the crazy man bring her here. Davina suddenly had a thought that scared her. She immediately lifted the blanket to check if she still had her clothes on. She heaved a breath of relief when she found out she was still fully dressed. She had lost her family, but she wasn't planning on losing her virginity too. No matter how good looking a man was, marriage was always the path to take, Mama used to say. Davina sighed remembering her mother's advice. She would have asked her mother to advise her on what to do if she was to lose her family one day but, who knew such a dreadful day would come? She knew that she would lose them gradually one day but, who knew they would all be gone on the same day?

"You finally decided to wake up", said a voice, jolting Davina from her thoughts. She turned to see the man from that night, the crazy vampire. When did he even come here? "You must be hungry",he said picking up the bowl of soup and walking towards her. "You have been asleep for three days." Davina's eyes widened at the mention of three days. "Three days?", she asked in shock. Ronald nodded. Dragging a chair, he took a seat on it beside the bed and said,"You sleep a lot for a witch", he deadpanned, making Davina fume in anger.
