Chapter 40 - An unfamiliar face

After a few more interrogative questions about his encounter with the dark spirits, the Grandmaster released Chi Cheng from his company.

The younger male claimed he had no memory of what exactly happened when he engaged the dark spirits in a fight and the Grandmaster didn't pester him further.

With some insistence and pleading to the Grandmaster, Chi Cheng was allowed to observe the Sword test scheduled for that evening. He was concerned about Chi Weiran but Han Xuelian informed him that his aide had already tended to the boy.

Seated on a wooden-carved chair beside the arena, Chi Cheng absentmindedly observed the first round of the sword test. The contestants duelled within a wooden-fenced enclosure that was set up in the estate's training courtyard.
