Wielding a newly forged two-sided sword, I deflected the paint brush's tanto attacks with relative ease. Compare to Sakumo's strikes, Kakashi is easy to predict and lack the deadliness that of someone that had been wielded a blade through countless life and death battles has.

"Watch your distance, not everyone would have the same reach as you do." I swiped close to his face, causing him to back away a few steps. And immediately followed up with an attack seemingly aimed for his head with a malicious grin, but changed the direction of my attack at the last second, knocking Kakashi's tanto out of his hand.
The spar was over.
Kakashi trying to calm down from the sudden killing intent I directed towards him. Sheathing my sword, I approached Sakumo, who is sitting on the edge of the training ground watching the entire time.
"Is it really necessary to be so harsh?" Sakumo asked. "Better he experiences this in a save environment than on a mission." I replied. Kakashi said nothing, only looked at me begrudgingly if I kicked his puppy.
Looking at Kakashi I said. "You are not ready yet, just because we can wield chakra doesn't mean we are invincible. A decisive blow can still kill anyone of us." I remarked.
Sakumo's lips twitched upward. "You are surprisingly kind in your own way." Sakumo teased. My eyebrow twitched.
Seeing that I didn't react much, Sakumo let the matter go and we dug into our bentos we brought.
This sparring exercise was orchestrated by none other than Sakumo hatake himself. It's intended Kakashi and me to resolve any enmities between us. If it's any one else asking me this, I wouldn't give a shit.
I hate to admit it, I developed a decent amount of respect towards Sakumo. He might not have taught me the hatake style kenjutsu, but everything else revolving the art of the sword he taught me sparing no details.
In my honest opinion, he like many others are too good for this world. My musings were cut short when Sakumo dropped a metaphorical bomb.
"On a different matter, would you like to participate in the upcoming chunin exams?" Sakumo suggested.
Almost an entire minute later, my brain was able to process what I just heard. "Nani?" Was my only reply.
[Some weeks later: Day of the chunin exam]
For some reason I was walking towards the exam class room along with Hokuto and Kobeni. Inwardly I sighed like a depressed old geezer. Just after my attempt on indirectly telling Kakashi to not rush his cutthroat career, dammed Sakumo just had to sign me up for the chunin exam.
I could have straight up declined his dammed idea, if not for a fucking quest popping up right after.

Take the chūnin exams and graduate from a bottom feeder to cannon fodder.

Well forget it, I might as well be a god dammed hypocrite in Kakashi's eyes. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter. My own survival is more important than what he thinks.
I wouldn't worry about not becoming chūnin. Ape face Hiruzen would rather have a few more chūnins with the tensions growing thicker in the shinobi world. War is looming and according to the gossiping merchants, Iwa, Kiri and Kumo were already gearing up for war, so is konoha as well. All are just waiting for one to make the first move or a catalyst for it to start.
In canon, it started because Sasori of the red sand assassinated the third Kazekage and Suna blamed Konoha for it.
The main issue right now comes after the I became chūnin. If Danzo isn't on my ass already, than I sure be on his shopping list after the chūnin exams.
Inwardly seething, I dragged my legs into the exam building.

Inside the building, I've been met with a sight that is giving me a sense of dejavu. Two chūnins in transformation disguise standing infront of a random class room. And yep, every other student thinks that they are standing infront of the examination room.
Hokuto was about to do something, but I grabbed his shoulder. "Don't, it's not worth it. Let's not cause a scene here." I whispered. We managed to find the correct class room and subtly entered. I couldn't help but to feel that the universe is trolling me. Either those at designed this exam are uncreative or I just happen to take the exams when they decided this time to use the genjutsu misdirection trick.
The day has just started and I'm already having a headache.
