SPIDER-MAN & HAWKGIRL
The two sat next to each other, their backs against the truck, in complete silence, next to the corpses of a friend and a foe. Hawkgirl held her wounds, now protected by a sheath of web; the same was true of Peter, their suits stained with now-dried blood.
"What do we do now?" asked Hawkgirl, looking towards Peter.
"We continue fighting until we win," replied Peter, staring at the ground.
"You make it sound so easy," replied Hawkgirl with a slight chuckle.
"I wish it were," replied Peter. After a pause, he returned to his feet and stared down the street.
"Where are you going next?" asked Hawkgirl.
"I'm off to help 3D-Man and Tigra with Vulcan; I can't just stay here resting while others are fighting for their lives," replied Peter, clenching his fist.
"I better get up too then," replied Hawkgirl, who, while trying to get up, stopped to hold her side in pain. Peter held out his hand and pulled her up. "Thanks," she added.
"You should rest some more and not push yourself too far," said Peter.
"You should listen to your own advice," replied Hawkgirl.
"I NEED ASSISTANCE, IMMEDIATELY!" yelled Shadow through the earpiece.
The two looked at each other and said, "Go, don't wait for me; with your swinging, you'll get there a lot faster than me!" said Hawkgirl.
"Alright, see you soon?" replied Peter.
Hawkgirl kept her hand on her wound. "Sure," she replied, starting to pull herself forward.
Peter nodded before swinging away.
Hawkgirl placed her hand on the building next to her to support her before coughing blood. She leaned down against the building and looked towards the sky. She could hear the sound of footsteps drawing closer.
"Spider-Man?" she asked, confused, looking sideways to see a man dressed in a blue latex suit with a bullseye on his chest.
"I made sure your little friend swung away first; don't worry, it's just the two of us, darling," replied the man.
"You're?" yelled Hawkgirl, scared and confused.
"Shhhhhh, yes, I am. I've waited a while for this, you know. People claim your master, Hawkeye, is the best marksman, but finally, I get a chance to take that mantle back. I know you've searched for me for a while, and I'm sorry I didn't get to you first; I would have liked to see how well you were trained," said Bullseye.
"You should be dead!" yelled Hawkgirl, scared and in disbelief.
"So did I. But I managed to crawl myself far enough to be rescued, if you could call it that. In return for miraculously saving my life, they wanted me to do one favour for them in the future, and this is what they asked for. I wish I could let you live; you have so much potential that I would have loved to fight you in your prime. Sadly, I'm not in a situation where I can do that. Goodbye," said the man, pulling out a gun.
Hawkgirl screamed in protest before coughing more and more blood, with no energy left to retaliate or struggle.
Right through the centre of Hawkgirls head was a hole after a muffled popping sound.
The man placed his gun back into his holster and took out his phone, looking at a map that showed the locations of all the Avengers. He smiled before placing the phone back in his pocket and starting to walk towards his next target. Hawkeye.
Completely ignorant of what occurred, Peter continued to swing through the city and headed straight towards Shadow. Without warning, a large light blinded Peter, and even when trying to block the light, it blinded him with his senses overwhelmed as he swung head-first into a lampost and fell to the ground.
"I think I know why Shadow asked for backup," muttered Peter to himself, picking himself back up and continuing his path. As he drew closer to the location where the random light came from, he could hear a satirical laugh from a man.
Soon Peter could see Shadow's figure becoming more clear, along with a hand around her neck. The man had a tight grip, and his head seemed to be full of blisters, burns, and inflammation, with the skin tissue badly damaged all around and his eyes missing completely with his lips dry.
Shadow tried her best to escape his grasp, clawing away at his hands, which also resembled his face. Tiny red blood spots appeared all around her face as her yells were quiet and raspy, with her eyes turning blood red.
The man smiled. "Give in to death; I love your pitiful attempts at trying to free yourself!" said the man, laughing in ecstasy.
Shadow arms gave up, and she accepted her fate as her sight started to go black and her ears started to ring before falling to the ground.
Peter swung towards the man, kicking him into the air and through a window, landing on the wall above it. Peter quickly jumped to the ground and held Shadow in his arms.
"Shadow!" he yelled.
Her vision started to come back. "Spider-Man?" she asked, confused, holding Peter's face in her hand.
"Erh, could you not do that? Please," said Peter, his voice muffled.
Shadow's eyes opened wide, and she came back to her senses as she quickly pulled her hand away, embarrassed. "I'm sorry!" she said, flustered.
"It's all good; I think we have a bigger problem right now," replied Peter, looking towards the broken window where the man started to pull himself to the front.
"You had to go ruin my fun!" said the man, cracking his neck.
"You should find a better interest," replied Peter while helping Shadow get back to her feet.
"His head turns into a large flash of light; be careful," she whispered to Peter.
"That explains why you had so much trouble," replied Peter.
The man jumped to the ground and faced the two. "Let's see if you can fight when you can't see?" asked the man, his head starting to glow.
