Chapter 419 - Panic and fear

Silas was quick. He snatched the gun from his grasp and slammed it on the head with a loud thud. The man rolled his eyes and lost consciousness instantly. Silas's anger had not subsided. He pressed the gun against his head, ready to pull the trigger.

It was only the faint sound of Esme's labored breathing that pulled Silas back from the brink.

"Esme!" he shouted, his voice hoarse as he jumped to his feet, leaving the man crumpled on the floor.

He rushed to her side, his heart dropping at the sight of her pale face and the blood soaking her dress. She had collapsed onto her knees, still clutching their baby, who was crying but unharmed. Silas gently pulled Esme into his arms, cradling her with a tenderness.

"Esme, stay with me," Silas pleaded, his voice thick with emotion. "I'm here, baby, I'm here."

Esme's eyes fluttered open, her breath shallow as she looked up at him. "The baby… she's safe," she whispered, her lips trembling.
