Daisy stared at her mother in disbelief, her mind struggling to reconcile this new image of Silas with the heartless villain she had been led to believe he was. It seemed impossible to her that Silas could be so considerate. In her mind, he was the man responsible for ruining her family's life.
When she met John and heard his bitter stories about how unfairly Silas had sent him to jail and destroyed his business, her hatred for Silas had only deepened. She couldn't bring herself to believe that he was capable of kindness. It had to be a trick, a ploy to further torment them.
"No… This is a trick. He wants to lure us into a false sense of security. He might be planning to further trouble us. Don't trust him."
She wouldn't accept that she had misunderstood him.
Her mother shook her head. "Your father is already in the best hospital in the city," she said firmly. "Mr. Sullivan is personally covering all the medical expenses."
