"Esme?" A flicker of surprise crossed Caleb's face.
Esme was in her eighth month of pregnancy, and she had stopped going to parties like this these days, for the baby's arrival. But Silas wanted to take her to the party.
"She won't be comfortable there," Caleb began cautiously. "If you don't want Daisy to accompany you, I'll arrange for someone else. Maybe you can call Miss Smith."
Silas dismissed the suggestion with a wave of his hand. "No need for that, Caleb."
It was an important banquet at the mayor's residence, and most importantly, Luis Bass was also attending the party. Silas was sure Mr. Bass would invest in several government projects and business ventures. He knew the importance of making a good impression on both the mayor and Luis, and for such an event, he wanted Esme by his side.
"I'll ensure her comfort, don't worry," Silas assured. "It's your responsibility to bring her here safely."
