Chapter 318 - Are you missing her?

"Thank goodness," Silas murmured. "I was scared to death when I saw that man taking you away."

"But I got my confidence back when I saw you." Esme beamed. Nestled in his embrace, she felt a warmth spread through her. His presence was a comforting anchor in the storm of fear. Her smile, however, faltered as a new wrinkle appeared on her brow. Curiosity tugged at her.

"How did you know I was here?" she asked.

Silas pulled back slightly, guilt flickering in his eyes. "I went to look for you at the cafe," he explained. "From there, I learned about the attempted kidnapping incident. I rushed here, fearing you would be in danger."

Esme held his gaze, putting her hand on his cheek. "I'm alright," she reassured him, gesturing to her own unharmed body. However, the reassurance felt hollow on her tongue. The smile on her face disappeared as she recalled how Daphne had gotten injured in the process of saving her.
