Colton recoiled from Lara's accusation, a flicker of rage dancing in his eyes. His fists clenched, betraying the fury simmering beneath the surface. Lara had the nerve to question him for that lowly bodyguard. He yearned to unleash his anger, but love for his daughter choked the words back.
"Are you suspecting me?" he rasped with wounded pride. "Lara, I may disapprove of Bruno, but I would never hurt him or any of my people. Do you get that?"
Lara breathed a small sigh of relief. She knew her father. Gruff and domineering, yes, but never a monster. He could never hurt anyone, not to mention his loyal employees.
"I'm sorry, Daddy," she apologized. "I didn't mean to imply that you were involved. It's just that this news came as such a shock. I don't know what is going on."
Colton's expression softened slightly, and he walked over to his daughter. "This attack...it shook me too. I'm trying to find who did this."
