Silas couldn't believe the officer was apologizing. For so long, he had assumed the cops were in Maya's pocket, puppets she could control at will. But this officer's apology had shattered that illusion, revealing this man was still loyal to his duty. Silas's initial disappointment slowly faded.
"I don't need your apology," Silas growled, his voice laced with bitterness. "Now that you know who the real criminal is, go deal with her like any other. I don't have time for this. My wife is waiting for me."
He walked past him, making his way to his sleek sports car. The engine roared to life as he sped off, glancing briefly into the side mirror. The officer remained standing there, motionless, watching him leave.
