"She's coming," Caleb mumbled with a daze of worry and helplessness.

"Shit," Silas muttered, running a hand through his hair, frustration etched on his face. The whole situation reeked of something more than a drunk driver. Sure, the perpetrator had confessed and already surrendered to the cops, but a nagging suspicion gnawed at Silas. It felt too convenient.

"This isn't a simple drunk driving accident," he said with conviction. "Find out everything you can about that driver. Dig deep."

Caleb, his own heart heavy with a different kind of pain, shoved his emotions aside. He would do anything to punish those who had hurt Adelynn. "I'll get to the bottom of this," he snarled, his jaw clenching.

Esme dashed out of her room, jolting Scarlet from her book.

"Esme! Where are you going in such a hurry?" Scarlet called out, concern creasing her brow as she saw Esme practically sprinting toward the front door.
