Chapter 179 - Property transfer

When Silas returned home, the house was cloaked in the hush of late hours. Esme lay in bed, her breathing deep and rhythmic in sleep. Silas's tense posture began to ease as he settled beside her, but the worry etched on his face remained stubbornly. The fear of losing Esme twisted his gut with dread.

"Things are getting complicated, Esme," he said in a hushed tone. "But I promise to keep you safe. Please, don't lose faith in me. Don't leave me." Pulling her close, he held her tightly, as if he could ward off any danger through sheer will. "I love you," he murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.

Esme stirred, her lips curving into a sleepy smile as she whispered, "You're back."

"Yes, baby," he replied, his fingers brushing through her hair affectionately.

Nestling into his embrace, Esme soon drifted back into a peaceful slumber.
