"We fired at 3% power, due to artificial interference, the attack reduced by 1.5%, shooting error, 0.77 meters, target destruction is 60%."
"Interference?"
"Yes, sir. Multiple objects were detected interfering with the attack; the possibility of their escape is 40%."
"I see."
Closing his eyes slightly, Shuichiro wasn't angry but rather surprised. Leucocyte's attack was lethal and impossible to avoid. Even with interference, the possibility of reducing its power was unheard of.
"What do you think, Segai?"
Without looking back, Shuichiro spoke.
"That's something surprising. For Undertaker to have something to deflect or even reduce Leucocyte's attack power is something it shouldn't have... This must be related to the 'Reaper.'"
Hearing that code name made Shuichiro raise his eyebrows in doubt. The 'Reaper' was, after all, just a Superhuman. Shuichiro didn't know how a Superhuman could be related, but still, it was Segai who mentioned it.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, sir!"
"I see... Continue monitoring them. I want to know their next target."
"At your command, Major Shuichiro."
With a dangerous gleam in his eyes, Segai quickly sent a message to the small mole he had sent to Undertaker. There was a cruel and excited smile on his face. This 'Reaper' was a big cake, and he wanted to see its full splendor.
---
"Yukin!!"
Watching the screen, Tsugumi shouted. The destruction displayed was significant.
Inori was the same as Tsugumi; her eyes trembled before a couple of tears ran down her cheeks.
(Yuki...)
"Yukin?! YUKIN! SOMEONE RESPOND!"
Unlike Inori, who was in shock, Tsugumi quickly called on her communicator, which didn't take long for Gai to respond.
[This is Gai.]
"Gai?! Are you okay?! Yukin?! Where's Yukin?"
Tsugumi was screaming those words, but no one thought it was out of place. Her boyfriend had been caught in the explosion.
[I don't know.] However, as if crushing Tsugumi's hopes, Gai was now looking at the fire around him. He was also worried about Yuki; after all, Yuki had taken a direct hit from Leucocyte.
"..."
"What about Kyo and Argos?" While Tsugumi remained silent, Ayase was the next to ask.
[They're fine. They escaped with me. However, half of our reinforcements were annihilated.]
With Gai's words, Undertaker members couldn't help but take a cold breath. Leucocyte's attack was terrifying.
"Yuki... Why isn't he with you?" The next to ask was Inori, her voice trembling as she said those words.
[...]
Recognizing Inori's voice, Gai just sighed. Even he knows that he is alive because of Yuki, but on the other hand, he also knows that no one would survive an attack of such magnitude, even if they are a Superhuman.
[He stayed behind, buying time for us to escape.]
"..."
An uncomfortable silence enveloped Gai and everyone in Undertaker. Gai even swallowed a bit of saliva because of what was about to happen.
"Nooo! How could he stay behind?! Coward! Coward! Why isn't it you, Gai?!"
Tsugumi's scream echoed throughout the command room and Gai's communicator. Tears fell from her eyes as she spoke those words; Gai's words were like a sharp knife that pierced her heart. She wasn't in control; the pain made several words come out unintentionally, but those were the words from her heart.
"Coward! Gai, you're a coward! How could you?! Why did you leave him?!"
On the other side, Gai just closed his eyes. This was partly his fault; he knew that with Yuki's abilities, there was a high chance he would come out unscathed or with only a few injuries from the explosion. Therefore, he didn't say anything when Tsugumi accused him. He was aware that right now, Tsugumi must be very hurt, and not only her.
However...
Gai sighed heavily as Argos and Kyo approached.
"Yuki, you must survive." With a lost look, Argos walked toward the fire. He refused to believe that his hero would die so easily.
"Argos-san!" Running behind Argos was Kyo. She also wanted Yuki to be alive, even though it frightened her a lot. He was part of their group and their savior.
Watching Argos walk away, Gai closed his eyes for a moment, then opened them abruptly.
Although there were slim chances of survival, that didn't mean it was zero.
"You must survive." Turning off the communicator for a moment, Gai also walked toward the fire. Like everyone else, he wanted Yuki to live.
---
"Gai?! Gai! Damn it!" with tears covering her eyes, Tsugumi fell to her knees. She couldn't believe that her boyfriend sacrificed himself for the group; something inside her tightened as despair filled her.
"Yukin..." murmuring these words, all the members in Undertaker sympathized. They knew what it meant to lose a loved one, so they understood Tsugumi's situation well.
"Tsugumi." Ayase also felt pain for the girl. However, unlike Tsugumi, for her, Yuki was just a good kid and her friend's boyfriend.
So, Ayase only hugged Tsugumi, who responded to the embrace with strength, burying her face in her chest.
"Aya-ne!! Yukin... He... can't die."
"Calm down, Gai and the others will find him soon."
Gently patting Tsugumi's back, Ayase sighed. She looked at her friend who was crying in her arms.
Unlike Tsugumi's shouts and cries, Inori was silent. Tears ran down her pale face as she held her chest tightly.
(Yuki... Died?)
The light in her eyes vanished quickly, while something inside her was about to erupt like an enraged volcano.
(Is this...?) However, while Inori was about to initiate a second lost Christmas, a warm light covered her heart.
"Yuki... You're alive."
This was Yuki's heart; Inori had unconsciously connected their hearts. The light returned to her eyes as the eruption stopped.
She clutched her chest while waiting for her hero to return. After all, Yuki was someone who saved a world; he couldn't die for this.
Thinking about this, color returned to Inori's face.
---
*Creak... BOOM!
*Roar...
In a place within the explosion, a huge ice lion, about 3 meters tall, emerged from the ground, breaking and freezing the earth. It roared before spitting something out of its body.
The small body was covered in red crystals all over.
"Ha.. Ha... Ha"
Breathing heavily, Yuki crouched on the ground. This had exceeded the limits of his injured body.
"Darn it!" Looking at his current state, Yuki couldn't help but curse. He was angry—angry at this accursed virus and angry at himself.
This virus had blocked most of his strength, yet Yuki had been reckless, displaying powers far superior to humans, forcing GHQ to use this terrible weapon.
(If only I could regain all my powers.)
Biting his lips in frustration, Yuki had been careless.
"You don't look good... Adam."
However, as he tried to catch his breath, he heard a voice that sent shivers down his spine.
