The rest of our dinner was rather uncomfortable after my father made his appearance. I walked the twins out to their carriage and saw them off. I sighed, relieved that my night was soon to be over. From what I gathered from our conversation, there were rising tensions in the Dragonborne clan. A lot of the families that were in the clan hated my father, but the top three families all supported him. Well, technically only two families since my own was the top one.
I tried to rack my brain for any information about the Dragonborne clan from the game. All that I could remember was that a civil war happened within the clan after the death of my father and that it ended when the villain took control of the clan. Perhaps the devs never went into details since it wasn't important to the main story. I sighed at the incompetence of the game devs.
To make matters worse, once I stepped back inside, Anne met me with a sorrowful look. She offered a letter to me on a silver platter. It was sealed with fresh wax that was molded into the emblem of the Dragonborne clan. She didn't need to explain what this was.
"Young Master… Um… Lord Dragonborne told me to deliver this to you…" She seemed unsure and afraid.
"Thank you, Anne."
I took the letter and went to my room. I more or less knew what the contents were, but I opened it anyway. Despite the size of the letter, it was rather short. Even if it was through writing, my father was disgusted by the idea of conversing with me.
"I looked into your so-called class. It was officially recorded by the priest, but no one had any records of it. Based on what you told me, I deemed it useless. I expect you to leave my property by tomorrow night.
-Ta'ran Dragonborne"
This was the first time I ever saw my father's handwriting. In all of its magnificence, it was basically a letter of him disowning me. I tossed the letter to the side, not surprised by this turn of events. I had been in this world for a month, but nothing but bad things happened. I lost my best friend, broke off an engagement, and the fate of the world quite literally rested on my shoulders. Expecting bad news, I looked at the twin sisters' character logs.
"Indeed, Lord Smarus was a dignified and respectable young man. He was unlike other nobles that I have encountered. They all had some sort of ulterior motive, but he simply wanted to converse with Myra and me. More than that, he didn't even behave like a noble in terms of hobbies and interests. It was a nice break, but then his father came into the room. I was scared, but Lord Smarus wasn't even phased by his presence.
I even snapped at him, but instead, I was met with a strong and determined glare. He already knew the irreparable damage that was done within the clan, but he never wanted to help the clan. He wanted to forge his own path. I didn't know why, but I felt like it was a safe option to follow him… yes, that is the best option.
Path Chosen: Loyal Servant"
I sighed in relief. At least she wasn't gonna try to kill me, but at the same time, I wasn't surprised. When I looked at their logs, both sisters hated social hierarchy. I overlooked it so many times, but once I actually thought about it, they were people like everyone. It would be exhausting if everything they did had to have a political agenda, so I gave up trying to whoo them in a sense. I opened Myra's log.
"He likes bread too! And he even took my advice on how to balance one's diet as well as everything else I said. It felt nice that I was just Myra to him… His dad was scary though… But Sis seemed to trust him, so I was sure everything would turn out well. Lord Smarus was kinda of scary too when he was angry, but it had a different feel to it. Like it was out of his own self-pity. When he becomes strong, I'll be there at his side too!
Path Chosen: Loyal Servant"
Two for two. I guess tonight wasn't a total bust. I lay down in my bed. I finished one task, but I immediately had to face another one. Where would I live tomorrow? I was sure I could take some money without my father noticing, but he wouldn't fund my existence. I had to find a way to make money... And talk to Luna. Well, I had no choice but to postpone that again. I can't help other people if I, myself wasn't well.
I sat up and saw all of my camping stuff neatly packed and prepared in the corner of my room. I was thankful for Anne. I grabbed it and opened my spatial inventory. It was weird because I had a feeling of being full once I put the equipment in it, but it wasn't uncomfortable or tiresome. I wondered how much I could fit in my inventory. I guess I could find out later. I spent the next hour packing all of my clothes and belongings before going to bed.
I knew I couldn't take the books in the library because they were all magically marked. My father would know immediately. I sighed and went to bed for the night. I will make a plan for my future tomorrow.
The next morning, I woke up before the Sun rose. It was best to leave without making a hassle. Most of my things were in my inventory, so I only had a small bag with me. I walked past all of the rooms that the housemaids stayed in. As I got to the staircase, I looked up. My father's room was just on the next floor. Although I had never been up there, I knew the layout from this body's memories. I could just kill him in his sleep and most wouldn't bat an eye. I shook the thought away. That was a cowardly way of thinking. As a true gamer… footsteps coming down from the stairs interrupted my thoughts. Immediately, I jumped over the railing and hid under the stairs.
The steps were light, and they were followed by tears. When the person came into view, I immediately recognized her.
"Why… why does it have to be me," May mumbled to herself.
She wiped her tears, but it was useless. She only cried harder. Another figure ran out of the kitchen and hugged her.
"Big sis!" Albert held her tightly. "Come on, let's go home."
His voice was on the verge of breaking, but somehow he got the words out. May only nodded her head as she walked holding onto Albert. I sat in the shadows as these event unfolded before me. May came from upstairs where my father…
My brow narrowed as I began to connect the dots. An unpreccidented amount of anger rose up inside of me. I had fuzzy memories, but May actually bore a resemblance to my mother. I felt my hands began to shake, and I gritted my teeth. That man deserved to go to the deepest depths of hell! I slowly rose from my hiding spot and walked to the door.
I took a deep breath in an attempt to calm myself, but it only worked so much. However, an unexpected voice stopped me.
"Young Master?" Anne was sitting on the front porch of my house.
"Anne?" Surprise momentarily took overcame my anger.
"I figured you would leave super early… and I guessed that the letter was a letter of banishment," She smiled as she walked over to me. "Young Master, your eyes are glowing!"
Were they really? It might have been a side effect from heightened emotions. The villain eyes glowed in the game as well, but I thought it was just a character design or something.
"Anne, is May being assaulted by my father?" I stared at her, expecting the truth.
Her face turned pale. She didn't want to tell me, but now that I knew, she had no choice.
"Young Master, Albert told us to keep quiet about it. He wanted to preserve his sister's dignity as much as possible," she looked down as she told me this.
This information only fueled my anger. Albert was like a big brother to me. He taught me how to fend for myself when I decided to learn about camping. He was also an excellent chef. Both he and his sister worked hard for my family. Why would my father spit in their face!? I saw Anne wince in pain, and I noticed that I was squeezing Anne's shoulders. I let go and took a deep breath.
"I apologize, Anne… It's as you said, I must leave the property, but I'll be back. When I do.." I could see a faint glow of purple reflecting off of Anne's face. Her eyes widened and her pupils dialated. "I will kill that man and take over everything."
I turned around and walked down the steps. At first, I thought of this world as just a video game that I was stuck it, but I was wrong. SO very wrong. This was a real world with real people. The conversation I had with the guardians was finally settling in. I didn't give a shit about this world becoming a paradox or anything. I will protect those who were around me. Let it be my father, gods, or even gaurdians, they will all meet the same fate. They will all fall by my hands.
