Rosemary's pov:
"So, who was it you were trying to summon?"
My eyes follow Avery's figure, rocking back and forth as Ava pushes him on the swing. Nathanael had asked if I knew of a quiet spot where we could talk. I'd have suggested the cemetery. Nobody ever bothers me there, but we're not alone so "Yellow trees" playground it was.
"I was just practicing," I lie.
"Right…," he, too, looks at Ava and Avery as he nods his head, seemingly incredulous, "You should be careful when practicing witchcraft,"
"How did you know I performed a summoning spell anyway? Did Avery sense it or something?"
"Not exactly," he finally turns to look at me, a small smile on his lips.
He's not lying, but he's not telling the whole truth either. If it wasn't Avery that sensed it, then who else?
"Rosemary," he calls for my attention.
It is only when I lock eyes with him again that I realize that I've been staring at my feet for a while already.
