Nathanael's POV:
Minutes that feel like hours go by as we stand in each other's proximity, in pure silence. I find no words to say following his own.
Reed merely spoke facts. Rosemary and I didn't spend that much time together, but even though she appeared hesitant and careful around me at first, she quickly understood that she had nothing to fear in me, at least I hope she doesn't.
"Still, no matter the amount of tossing and turning I do, asleep or awake, I fail to understand your reasoning. Why would a future alpha and contender to the throne go on a date with a human? What were you thinking?" he presses me with that question.
"I am not sure I was… Thinking," I say.
"See, that right there doesn't convince me. You of all people should have known better, and you don't strike me as the frivolous or immature or even… Self-centered kind," he peers into my eyes as though attempting to hear the thoughts running through my mind.
