Chapter 54 - Daughter of the king

Benhilda took charge of the party of fifteen adventurers and immediately split them into four separate units, each comprised of four members. Each team was led by a seasoned adventurer, and to their surprise, Benhilda requested Lia, the child prodigy general of the summoners, to join her party. She was known for her uncommon magical prowess and was eager to display it in real combat. Deciding that they would head into the most dangerous part of the forest, where the bandits were rumored to have their main camp, Benhilda quickly organized her teams to cover the area. As they arrived at the edge of the forest, Benhilda instructed her group to set up strategic positions and prepare for potential threats. The first directive Benhilda provided was to create a diversionary tactic. She ordered Soren, one of her most experienced adventurers, to set up monster bait in the form of red lumps that exuded an aura of darkness. The ominous, magical bait was specifically designed to attract and agitate the aggressive creatures dwelling in the heart of the forest. The plan was to use the ensuing chaos to draw out the bandits from their hiding spots. As soon as the bait was set, Benhilda stationed each team member strategically around the area, ready to engage the incoming beasts. With Lia and the summoners using their mystical abilities to reinforce the defenders, the party was prepared for the inevitable confrontation. Benhilda remained at the center of the operation, coordinating the tactics and issuing orders, ready to lend support and guidance to the individual teams as they faced the terrifying onslaught of beasts. Each member of the parties, including Lia alone, the summoner, stood poised and vigilant, waiting for the first signs of movement from the dark heart of the forest. She was prepared to defend against the wild creatures, and as day turned to night, the tension in the air grew thick with anticipation and trepidation. As Lia found herself standing within the quadrant of the forest she had been assigned, a sudden commotion broke the stillness of the surroundings. The ground quivered beneath her feet, and distant snorts and grunts echoed through the trees. Suddenly, a tumultuous chorus of thundering hooves drew closer, reverberating through the air with an unmistakable urgency. A stampede of boars, over seventy in number, burst violently through the undergrowth, their massive frames shaking the earth with every pounding step. The cacophony of their snorts and grunts filled the air, drowning out any other sound. The sheer force of their charge seemed to disturb the very fabric of the forest, their numbers overwhelming and their determination unwavering. In the face of this chaotic onslaught, Lia knelt firmly upon the ground, her gaze steady and her brow furrowed with intense focus. With a swift and deliberate motion, she summoned forth the earth's forces, calling forth anthills that erupted from the ground around her. As she extended her hands outwards, the anthills seemed to grow and expand, birthing colossal ants that stood three feet tall, their dark carapaces glistening in the dappled sunlight that filtered through the canopy above. Ten of these gargantuan, obsidian-hued ants emerged from the depths of their earthen domain, their keen antennae quivering with alertness as they stood sentinel before Lia. With a resolute and almost imperceptible nod from Lia, they surged forth towards the approaching boars, their mandibles agape in anticipation of conflict. As the first boars crashed into the clearing, the ants sprang into action. They tore through the beasts with a ferocity that sent shivers down Lia's spine. The ground soon became a bloody battlefield, the cries of the dying mixing with the furious buzzing of the ants. As the two forces collided, the air became filled with dust and the sounds of fierce combat. The great ants moved with astonishing agility, their powerful pincers cleaving through the ranks of the boars with terrifying efficiency. The boars, taken by surprise at the sudden emergence of these formidable adversaries, reeled and faltered in the face of the onslaught. The black ants worked in a cohesive and coordinated frenzy, their sheer ferocity and unity proving to be an insurmountable force against the overwhelming numbers of the charging boars. The forest reverberated with the reverent clash of nature's titans, the earth itself bearing witness to the unfolding skirmish. Nature's balance seemed precarious, the silence of the forest shattered by the rhythmic ebb and flow of conflict. Undeterred, Lia gazed upon the struggle before her with an unwavering determination, her bond with the earth and its creatures serving as a steadfast testament to her unwavering resolve. When the dust finally settled, only five of her ants remained, but Lia knew that they had bought her precious time to prepare for the next wave. With a steely determination, Lia rushed to the nearest fallen boar and began to sever the left ears as quickly as she could. She needed to prepare for a second attack, and she knew that these ears would be her best chance of getting riches, and earning her position as general. Behind her in other quadrants she could also hear the fighting. Lia had always been a fierce and powerful summoner with talent, but when she found herself abandoned in the forest, she knew she would need to rely on all her magic and strength to survive. As night fell and the forest grew dark, she felt a sense of unease settle in her stomach. She had no food, no water, and no shelter. It would be a long and difficult night. Suddenly, she heard a rumbling in the distance. At first, she thought it was just the wind, but as the sound grew closer, she realized it was the stomping of hooves. And not just a few seventy or so– it sounded like a wild herd was approaching. Panic set in as she searched for a place to hide, but there was nowhere to go. She was trapped. But as the stampede drew closer, she felt a surge of power within her. She had always had a special connection with the creatures of the forest, and now, as she closed her eyes and focused on her surroundings, she could feel the ground vibrating beneath her. That's when she knew what she had to do. With a sudden burst of energy, Lia summoned her army of loyal ants. Hundreds of them swarmed out from the earth, their razor-sharp pincers glinting in the moonlight. She could feel their ferocity, their loyalty to her, and she knew that she could command them to do whatever was necessary to survive, the queen ant stood sentinel next to her. As she worked, she could hear the rumblings of another stampede in the distance, and she felt a surge of dread. The hoard of boars that descended upon her next was massive – there must have been six hundred of them in total. But this time, Lia was ready. As she felt the ground tremble beneath her feet, she unleashed over a hundred black ants, and the forest was bathed in chaos and bloodshed. For days, the battles raged on, wave after wave. The cries of the dying boars echoed through the trees, and Lia's loyal ants fought with a ferocity that even she had never seen before. It was a massacre, and Lia knew that she would have to rely on all her magic and strength if she wanted to survive in this unforgiving forest. But as she stood amongst the bloodied earth, she knew that she was more powerful than she had ever realized. And she was ready for whatever this magical world would throw at her next.
