Chapter 14 - Strange figures: Ben

As he walked, he looked around at the people and the buildings. He saw children playing in the street, and merchants selling their wares. He saw beggars asking for alms, and young couples walking hand in hand. He saw a world full of peace. He saw a world full of life and possibility, and he felt a sense of wonder and curiosity. He had never seen so much of the world before, and he realized that there was so much he didn't know. He began to walk faster, eager to see more. He turned a corner and found himself in a new part of the city, full of unfamiliar sights and sounds. He walked down a narrow alleyway, and suddenly he found himself in a courtyard, surrounded by tall buildings. In the center of the courtyard was a fountain, with water bubbling over the sides. The sound of the water was soothing, and the air cool and refreshing.Ben decided to stop and rest for a while, and as he rested he spotted a small inn nearby, he slowly walked towards it. The innkeeper greeted him warmly, and he paid for a room. The room was small but clean, and the bed was soft and inviting, the bottom floor was a restaurant whereas the lodge. Ben lay down on the small bed, and he felt his body relax. He closed his eyes, and soon he was asleep. When he woke, the sun was setting and the streets were full of people. He felt refreshed and invigorated, and he decided to go out and explore the city again. As Ben came down the stairs, he was surprised to see the restaurant filled with people. There were men and women of all ages, from all walks of life. Some were dressed in rich robes, others in simple tunics. They were all talking and laughing, sharing stories and drinking from steaming mugs. In the corner, a bard played a lively tune on a lute. The innkeeper saw Ben and smiled. "Good evening, friend!" he said. "I see you've come down to join us. Would you like something to eat?""Yes, please," Ben said. As he looked around, he saw a group of adventurers sitting at one of the tables. There was a dwarf in heavy armor, a half-elf with pointed ears, and a human with a sword at his side. They were talking and laughing, sharing tales of their exploits. The dwarf was telling a story of a battle he had fought, while the half-elf was telling a joke that had the human laughing so hard he was in tears.Ben felt a pang of loneliness, but he pushed it away. He was on an adventure of his own, and he would make friends along the way. Ben felt a weight on his shoulder, and he looked down to see the kitten had climbed up onto his shoulder and was curled up, sleeping peacefully. The kitten's purr was a soothing sound, and the hero smiled. He felt a sense of comfort and companionship with the small creature. It was a welcome respite from the loneliness he had felt earlier. He sat down at a table, and the innkeeper brought him a bowl of stew and a tankard of ale. Ben ate and drank, savoring the simple pleasures of a warm meal and a cold drink. As he ate, he found his thoughts wandering back to the day he had found the fenrir wolf. He had been walking through that enchanted forest, lost and alone, when he had stumbled upon a small clearing. There, in the middle of the clearing, was a small white wolf, curled up and sleeping. The wolf looked so weak, so hungry, and the hero had felt a strange connection to it. He had sat down next to the wolf, and it had opened its eyes and looked at him. The wolf had not been afraid, and the hero had felt a sense of trust and understanding. Fenrir wolves had been known to be very vicious, and if their young showed weakness, or had poor genes, they would be left to starve by their mothers, this one being white, being an albino, was definitely left since it could not camouflage or blend in with the environment. He had stayed with the little wolf all night, and in the morning, he had been surprised to see that the wolf had followed him as he left the clearing. The wolf had continued to follow him, staying close at his side, as if it knew he was its protector. Ben had found a strange sense of purpose in caring for the wolf, and he had named it Snow. The wolf had become his closest friend, and he had vowed to keep it safe.As the hero thought about Snow, he felt a twinge of sadness. He felt guilty that he had made a pact with the wolf, binding it to him with magic afterwards. He had a special ability to summon it to his side whenever he needed it. He knew that the wolf was safe in the summon dimension, waiting for his call. But even though he knew the wolf was safe, he still missed its presence, so he frequently let it out and it took shape of the kitten. He wished he could see its long white fur and feel its warm breath against his cheek while it was in it's true form. The hero took a deep breath and pushed the thoughts of sadness away. He had a mission to complete, and he could not afford to be distracted. He finished his meal and rose to his feet. He nodded to the innkeeper. As Ben stood up, he noticed a figure in the corner of the room. A tall, slender figure, with pointed ears and long, flowing hair. The figure approached the hero, a smile on its face. "Greetings, friend," the figure said, in a melodic voice. "I could not help but notice your companion. May I?" The figure gestured to the kitten on the Ben's shoulder.Ben nodded, and the figure reached out a hand to pet the kitten. The kitten purred and leaned into the figure's hand, seeming to enjoy the attention.
