It was a day like any other. Alex was out training with Kaede for combat, while Raven was training with her aunt Lyanna and Amelie there as well. She was training her magical use with her lightning. She had struggled to control the amount of magic she had, and Lyanna was helping her with that.
Amelie also took this time to train with them as well in order to improve her magic. Amelie had inherited her father's magic of fire, with her magic adapting to be a scarlet-red color.
The two cousins would try to help each other control their magic and even spared together with the assistance of Lyanna, who was a natural at controlling magic throughout her body.
During the training, Raven was using her lightning to do what Alex did at the party and create an electric web, which she was slowly but surely getting used to doing. She was actually close to mastering it, which impressed Lyanna.
"Good job, Raven." Lyanna said while clapping.
Raven smiled. "Thanks; still, it's not like how Alex did it..."
Lyanna sighed "I still don't know how he managed to pull that off...me and Anna never taught him how to use his magic like that."
Lyanna was stumped over how Alex seemed to be able to use magic however he wanted, even if he didn't know exactly how to do it. It was almost as if he was naturally in tune with magic itself, but that wasn't possible, or at least it shouldn't be for him.
As the group was training, they soon heard footsteps coming from afar. Lyanna turned around and saw four people walking up to them in a line formation. Upon seeing them, Lyanna grew suspicious. "Each of them are fairly strong. What are they doing here?" she thought to herself.
"Raven, Amelie, get behind me!" Lyanna ordered.
The two children obeyed, got behind Lyanna, and also saw the four figures approaching them.
"Looky looky, a beautiful woman, and two children out of her all alone." one of the figures said.
This figure was a well-built man with long brown hair and a beard so long that it reached down to the center of his chest. He seemed to be in his 40s, but his body looked like he was in his prime. He was also carrying a two-handed axe with one single hand as he walked up to the group.
"Relax, Ivan. You have enough women in your life, don't you think?" one of the skinnier men said.
The skinnier man had short blonde hair and glowing green eyes; his eyes looked as if he hadn't slept in a week. He didn't seem strong physically, but Lyanna could sense he had very dangerous magic.
"Jasper, don't you know how he is? Nothing is ever enough." Another one of the figures said.
This person seemed to be in his mid-twenties and had medium-length red hair and green eyes. He was carrying twin swords in his hands. Lyanna could sense nearly no magical abilities at all but didn't doubt he had more than made up for it in his weapon mastery.
"Boys relax, work first, play later." the only female of the group said.
The girl had long black hair and glowing yellow eyes; she had a seductive figure, and unlike the three guys in her group, she was wearing a tight black dress that showed off her curves.
"Esabell, you know damn well Ivan is all about play first." the man with the twin swords said.
"Well, Abel, you three know the reward, right? Let's get this job done." Esabell said.
Esabell then used magic, created a bow out of fire magic, and launched a fire arrow at Lyanna, Raven, and Amelie, who quickly had to dodge the attack.
Raven launched a barrage of lightning strikes at the group attacking them, which they also dodged.
"Good, I love when they fight back." Ivan said, smiling.
Ivan grabbed his axe with his other hand and jumped up impossibly high for a human.
"SPREAD OUT!" Lyanna yelled.
The three went in different directions and dodged the attack by Ivan, who landed right in between them with his axe, creating a hole in the ground.
Raven was then attacked by the blonde, skinny man who was using water magic, which forced her to dodge his relentless attacks. Ivan and Abel attacked Lyanna, who was being barraged by their physical attacks and the combination of Ivan's strength and Abel's speed. Meanwhile, Esabell was focused on attacking Amelie and making sure Amelie would be cut off from Lyanna and Raven.
*Ravens perspective*
Raven was using her lightning to attack Jasper as much as she could, but Jasper had the upper hand. Even if he possessed weaker magic than Raven, he was far more experienced in combat.
Raven was also using her mother's combat style by using her magic in combination with her spear; the issue was that Jasper was keeping Raven at too far a distance for her spear to be useful.
Jasper saw her use lightning magic, and he knew that in an elemental battle, water would always conduct electricity, so he did his best to avoid getting wet with his own spells.
Raven kept dodging his attacks, which started to infuriate Jasper. A child has never given him such problems in a fight before. In his fury, Jasper launched a jet stream of water at Raven, who then threw a lightning strike into the stream, hoping Jasper would be shocked to death, but instead he cut the stream off right in time. Raven knew that was a possibility, so she gathered her strength into her spear and used her lightning on it to launch it at Jasper, who smiled while preparing to dodge. However, he didn't account for Raven charging him at the same time, which meant no matter what, he was going to take a hit.
Raven remembered her training and launched a lightning net at Jasper, which caused him to fall while being entangled. What he didn't realize was that the spear of hers was still falling, and it landed right in his stomach, which made him cough up blood as he died shortly thereafter.
Raven picked up her spear out of Jasper's stomach and headed in the direction of Amelie and Lyanna.
While Raven was fighting Jasper, Amelie was running from Esabell, who was releasing arrows in her direction without pause. Each of these arrows caused a miniature explosion as soon as they impacted. Amelie was nearly caught up in one of these explosions, and a small cut appeared on her cheek. It wasn't deep enough to scar, but it did cause blood to roll down her cheek.
Amelie did her best to use the trees of the nearby forest as cover, but the arrows sent by Esabell were slowly causing a giant wildfire around the woods, which garnered the attention of Edward and Ava, who were watching the chaos.
"What in the hell is going on now?" Edward said, staring outside his window.
"Maybe magic practice went wrong?" Ava suggested acting innocently.
Edward looked at his mistress and sighed. "Lying is unbecoming of you."
Ava was shocked. "Whatever could you mean?"
"Ava, you are a horrible liar." Edward turned around without facing his mistress. "Guards, go into the woods and stop whoever is causing this."
The guards nodded, and soon a task force was sent out into the battle.
Edward turned to Ava and told her sternly, "If you ever try something like this again, I'll sell you to the underground whorehouses."
Edward, while he did hold a dislike for many of Anna's family, wasn't a fool. He knew damn well that this could backfire completely. Attack right on his own territory, so close to his home. He needed to appear strong in front of the nobility, and that includes snuffing out any threats...even if the threats were caused by his mistress. He didn't know exactly what she did, but he could easily tell she was part of this in some way.
"Damn woman..." he thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Amelie was still dodging the attacks from Esabell, but she now had a new plan. Instead of running away, she ran towards Esabell, still dodging the incoming attacks, even if just barely. She got closer and closer to where the arrows were coming from and saw Esabell standing on top of the rock. Amelie unleased a wave of fire at Esabell, who dodged by jumping in the air, but Amelie released a barrage of fireballs at Esabell, who couldn't dodge because of her being in the air and was hit in the stomach directly by the fireball. Esabell was knocked out because of her own foolish mistake, and Amelie headed back towards her mother and Raven.
Finally, it was Lyanna alone who defended against Ivan's powerful axe attacks and Abel's swift swords. You would think she would be struggling, but no, instead she was unscratched, while Abel and Ivan had cuts all over their bodies.
"What...is she?" Abel asked Ivan.
"I...don't know." Ivan responded.
Lyanna smiled upon hearing this. Purple lightning surrounded her body as she walked towards the pair of mercenaries. Lyanna looked less like a graceful woman and more like a predator looking at her prey. Lyanna unleased a large lightning attack on both of the mercenaries, causing Ivan and Abel to both be sent back.
"So...who sent you?" Lyanna asked the two mercenaries.
Neither of the two answered, so Lyanna hit them again with the lightning strike and said "I won't ask again, and if you make me, well...pain is always a good way to get information out of someone."
Ivan and Abel looked over at each other and still didn't answer Lyanna.
"I was hoping you would do that." Lyanna said with a smile that scared both of them.
The only thing anyone could hear afterwards were the screams of the two men, who were once some of the most feared mercenaries in the guild.
