Flashes and flashes of text appeared in front of me as I fended off the man, the burning feeling within me getting even hotter by the second, driving me insane as I tried to fend off his furious blows, his fists only getting faster and faster.

[The heart is reaching dangerous levels! The heart is reaching dangerous levels!]

I gritted my teeth and shut my eyes, knowing if this kept up, I would probably die. Sweat dripped down my brow as I thought. Max pulled back once more. Quickly, I used this as my opening, grabbing the gun from my jacket and aiming it at him, breaking the shield for an instant for it to go through.

Max hesitates, quickly moving out of the way as the trigger is pulled, dodging the bullet entirely. He fell from that gruesome height, landing on his feet, his hand digging into the earth for support, in a stance similar to that of a wild animal.

His gaze landed on me once more, my feet at the edge of the billboard, sparks flying around me, holding my side in pain.

"Sorry," I muttered, reloading my gun effectively with my teeth and one arm, my eyebrows furrowing in rageful determination as I gazed down at my opponent. "But I have a sister to get back to."

Mark chuckled, getting up from the ground and looking me dead in the eyes.

"You shouldn't bother," He shouted, both arms stretched out wide as if he were inviting me to take a swing. "She's as sure as caught!"

My face contorted to one of disgust as I watched the man below me, a smile plastered on his face. He was toying with me; he's been going easy on me and still is, but I can't let that get to me. I'll take advantage of that and get away from here!

"You don't know a thing about my sister." A weary smile appeared on my face, and I aimed my gun at him. "She won't get caught, and I won't either."

Emma... please win for me.

[Emma's pov]

Guards roam the underground, their defenses tight, patches of white scattered around the dark walls, searching for more suspects. I clutch the box close to my chest, hiding behind one of the buildings as I wait for an opening.

The sound of gunfire filled the air, causing my heart to leap out of my chest. My eyes slowly turned to the source of the sound, seeing two rubber bullets hit against the floor, missing me, but whether it was from luck or just a warning was unknown.

"So you're working for that other kid, huh?" A voice muttered as it got closer. A man with blue hair tied up in a man bun approached. "Hand over the box; you're under arrest for suspicious activity with the black market."

[Velocity increase, 20%]

My heart raced as my fingers clawed into the side of the box, my feet having a mind of their own as they ran, leaving the guy behind. Everything around me slowed as my feet dug against the littered concrete floor, my shoes stepping into the pools of crimson left behind by the other victims.

"Super speed, huh?" he muttered to himself, putting the gun away and reaching for his walkie-talkie strapped to his side. "Attention all units; look for a girl with black hair and blue eyes, carrying a package of some sort. Stop her by all means, even if it means losing a limb or too; just don't kill her."

[Velocity decrease, 0%]

I kept running, the wind brushing through my hair as I started to slow down. I felt like I wanted to puke, and my eyes dilated as I held back the urge.

[Cooldown! Oxygen needed!]

Signs started to flash before my eyes, yellow alarms and gauges flashing in front of me as I tried to slow down, gasping for breath.

"I need... I need to get out of here..." I muttered under my breath, the sound of engines turning coming from afar. Quickly, I turned my head to see what it was, my eyes widening to see armored cars coming my way at full speed, guns blazing from their heads.

[Velocity increase, 15%]

I tried my best to dodge the bullets and get out of there as fast as possible, taking a sharp turn wherever I could to get away, yet they were still on me.

[Velocity increase, 40%]

"Shit," I muttered, reaching for my gun and running back, my feet colliding with the floor for one more send-off as time slowed around me once more, climbing into the armored vehicle and shooting both guys in the head. The bullets slowly pieced through their skin, their reactions, their pain—all of it was delayed.

[Velocity decrease, 0%]

When I got out of the car, it was already over, everything returned to normal as the car of the dead driver collided with the other, creating an explosion, that shot out and spread, their parts flying through the already narrowed pathway the blade cutting my leg.

I gritted my teeth, trying not to scream, as crimson leaked from the shallow wound.

"There she is!" I heard someone shout behind me, gunfire lighting up the narrow alleyway.

[Velocity increase, 40%]

My mind felt like a haze as my cybernetics activated once more, warnings flashing all over my eyes, blinding me temporarily.

[Warning! Warning! Oxygen needed!]

I shook my head, running past the bullets, a few of them grazing my skin as I tried to get out of there as fast as possible before I passed out. The minute I made my way past them, my feet collided with the ground once more...

[Velocity decrease, 10%]

I kept running as fast as I could, breathing as hard as I could, my heart felt like it was on fire but I needed to escape, I needed to run, as fast as I could, no holding back!

More and more obstacles and officers started to get in my way, the Debre from their slaughter filling the streets. I dodged and dodged as much as I could, bullets whistling by my ear with every close miss my short hair wisping behind me, shooting all of the officers that stood in my way.

Gunshots were heard behind me, a sharp stinging pain getting sent straight to my leg, the pain causing me to stagger on one foot as I continued through my alarming speed, tipping over until I was soaring, my head to the floor and my feet almost to their sky. My eyes see the man from before; his gun pointed straight at me.

"V-Velocity," I muttered, choking on the blood that started to spew from my lips. My hands held my gun tight as I aimed for the man, my body still airborne.

"Forty percent..."
