Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 - Fashion victim

The wind howled outside, and the rain pounded against the windowpanes. Inside, the two ladies were oblivious to the storm raging outside. One lay on the bed, lost in thought, while the other searched through a closet for the perfect outfit. It was a quiet, almost peaceful moment, despite the chaos of the weather. The atmosphere was heavy with anticipation and uncertainty, but also with a hint of excitement.

Layla went through her wardrobe, pulling out dress after dress. Some were too casual, some were too formal, and some were just not quite right. After several minutes of searching, she had narrowed it down to three dresses that might work. With a sigh of frustration, she pulled the three dresses off the hangers and tossed them onto the bed. "I'm just not sure about any of these," she said, looking at Thea for help. "What do you think?"

Layla picked up the dark green wrap dress and held it in front of her body, studying her reflection in the mirror. It fit her well and the color was flattering, but she wasn't sure if it was the right choice for the party. "I like this one, but I'm not sure it's quite right," she said, frowning slightly. "What do you think?" she asked Thea, turning to her friend for advice. Thea studied the dress on Layla's body, and gave her honest opinion. "I think it's a beautiful dress, but it's not quite right for a business party. Then Layla showed her another dress which got Thea furious.

Thea let out a shout. "Are you going for a funeral?" she said, her voice filled with incredulity. Layla jumped, startled by Thea's outburst. "No, of course not!" she replied, feeling a bit defensive. "I'm just trying to find something professional and appropriate, that's all." She said, trying to justify her choice of dress.

"Your sense of style has gotten a bit... Worst... since your breakup with Luca," Thea observed, watching Layla rummage through her wardrobe with increasing frustration. Thea stood up from the bed and went through Layla's clothes. 'I don't see anything that really stands out,' she said, an amused smile playing on her lips. 'Everything is just so... standard.'" Layla rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but laugh. "You're such a tease!" she said. "But I guess you're right, my wardrobe is a bit boring."

"Your wardrobe is really lacking in personality," Thea said with a playful eye roll. "But we can work with what you've got. "A business formal party, you say?" I think I can find something that will suit the occasion." With that, Thea started rifling through her own clothes, finally emerging with a stack of dresses in various shades. "Let's see what we can do with these," she said, handing Layla the first dress.

Layla examined the dresses Thea had brought, but none of them felt quite right. They were all so glamorous and stylish, as if they were made for a party rather than a business event. "I don't know," she said, feeling a bit overwhelmed. "These are all so... much. I think I'm just going to stick with what I have."

"What? You're kidding, right?" Thea asked, a bit shocked by Layla's reaction. She held up a miniskirt and jacket, both of which had a striped pattern. "You're not seriously suggesting I wear this to a business event, are you?" Layla couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the outfit.

"How about this one?" Thea asked, holding up a more elegant and sophisticated dress. It was still stylish and fashionable, but in a more professional and appropriate way. The dress was made of a soft, luxurious fabric, and had a cut that flattered Layla's figure. "I think this one would be a good choice," Thea said, motioning for Layla to take the dress from her.

"No way!" Layla exclaimed, throwing the dress back at Thea. "It's way too short and revealing, and the open back is too much for a professional event. Thea took the rejected dress and the ones that Layla had discarded on the bed, returning them to the wardrobe without a word. She sat back down on the bed, picking up her phone and scrolling through the screen.

Layla let out a frustrated sigh. "Come on, Thea. Please, help me out again. I know you're the fashion expert here". After much thoughts and having going through her wardrobe she decided on what to wear but Thea did move from the bed even while Layla talk to herself to get her attention. She got into the bathroom , she turn on the shower as the water cascaded down her body as the thoughts of what she going to face through that evening was on her head.

After a warm bath, she came out of the bathroom and Thea was already sleeping peacefully like she has no problem, that was meant to be her, sleeping on a cool Saturday evening. Her phone made a sound so she went to get it from the table.

" The car will get to your apartment in the next 40 minutes ".

Layla's heart skipped as she read the text message, she was not ready to offend Mr Logan. She was running out of time, she hurriedly applied her lotion, then she slipped into the outfit she brought out. A white shirt and a brown skirt yhsy swirled around her legs.

With only 25 minutes to spare, Layla was running around the room, her hair dryer in one hand and her brush in the other, after successfully blow dried her hair and brush it, she ended up packing it in buns. She grabbed her makeup bag and dabbed some concealer and powder to her face with a touch of mascara and lip gloss.

Lalya's final touch was a spritz of her signature perfume, she grabbed her bag with a pair sensible flats. She took one last look at the mirror and gave herself a quick nod of approval. "Am heading out "Layla turn to Thea who was sleeping on the bed but she was sure she was pretending so she won't have to say much about her dressing.

"Hope I look good "Thea gave Layla a sleepy smile and mumbled " you look fine" she look closely even if she wanted to make a suggestion she just had to lock in, Layla style was not really bad but too simple for whatever occasion she was going for " Get a coat, it will really be cold outside ". She closes her eyes in order to not say what she have to say. Layla grabbed a coat "see you later " and she left.

The raindrop had finally subsided, leaving behind a peaceful silence. Only the sound of water dripping from the roof could be heard, and the weather was cool and crisp. Layla stood outside of her apartment for a minutes when a sleek midnight blue Lexus pulled in front of her. It was all saying Mr Logan.

The purrr of the engine sounded like a contended lion, the window was tinted to a deep shade of black so Layla could not see the driver or who was in the car.

As the window rolled down , Layla lean forward to know who was in the car. "Miss Layla ". It was Mr Louis, Mr Logan butler and driver.

Layla greeted and she got into the car, he started the engine as the car moved so fast. " Mr Logan is currently at another venue for an appointment, I will take you to meet him then both of you can head to the event ". Layla smiled and buckled her seat belt and nodded " yes sir".

Mr. Logan's laugh was loud and booming, and it filled the car. "Please, Miss Layla, you can call me Mr Louis. No need for all the formalities!" he said with a grin. Layla smiled back, feeling a bit more at ease. "Thank you,Mr Louis. That's very kind of you," she said.

The drive was surprisingly peaceful, but then the car came to a stop in front of a large, imposing hotel. Mr Louis opened the car door and get down, then held out a hand to help Layla out too. As she step out, she saw a tall figure standing in front of the hotel entrance. Mr Logan, she quickly walk to him and bow, greeting him.

Layla couldn't quite place the look that Mr Logan gave her. She look around hoping she was not missing anything. Mr Logan's smile was tight and it was clear that he was less impressed with Layla 's outfit. " I did not expect you to dress in a manner that reflect the seriousness of your job". His tone was taking a lecturing quality, she regretted not paying attention to what Thea was saying about her dress looking too formal. She felt a flash of anger and embarrassment.

Mr Logan turned to Mr Louis and took the car keys from him, without a word, he tossed them to Layla "let go " he voice was like a bell ringing in her head. Was driving part of her job, she thought, she caught the keys and headed toward the car. She knew she would need to stay calm if she wanted to succeed in her job. Taking a deep breath, she open the door of the car for Mr Logan and headed to the driver's sit.. .....
