Chapter 5 - Second Step

Closing the door he tossed the keys on the table and sat down.

"I still can't believe he let me sleep in the truck so he could leave after I came back"

Shaking his head he got up and left to change out of his clothes. "I thought today would be worse and I would pass out after I got to my room." Sitting on his bed he pulled out a book hidden underneath the carpet. With the book in hand, he turned to look at the hole underneath the carpet.

Inside the hole was a platinum bracelet, a gold necklace, and a silver ring. Looking at the items inside one more time he let out a small sigh and covered the hole.

Sitting back down at the table he opened up the book and flipped to the page he was last on. Looking at the page he remembered what he learned from his experiments last night.

He couldn't activate two spells at once the energy got into some kind of conflict, the light spell can be put out by the extinguish light spell, the extinguish light spell does not work on medium-sized fires. The light from the spell can be moved using his body but not anything else, and he can somewhat affect the strange energy with his will.

"Hmm… Does that say mana?"

"How did I miss that?"

"Does the other one say mana as well?"

Looking back at the instructions from the first spell he saw that it does indeed say use mana or paper as the medium for the spell.

"So that strange energy is mana good to know. I need to pay attention more so I don't overlook stuff like that again"

When it says use mana as a medium how is it different from using paper mana is still used. Maybe when I'm using paper mana is only a power source and not a medium but how could you use mana to make the circle?

Shaking his head he decided not to think about it now as it wasn't important why he would use mana when he could just use paper. He could figure that out later when he wants to.

"Ok let's look at the next spell"

Flipping the page to the next spell he started reading.

The Small Flame spell is more complicated than the previous two spells. To cast this spell you can no longer use paper and pencil as a medium you must use mana as the medium. If you are unable to use mana as the medium go to the page about mana manipulation to correct your inadequacy and return.

"Ahh… I guess it is I have to figure it out now…"

Flipping to the page with mana manipulation with a look of indignation Wesley started reading again.

To manipulate mana you must use your Will. Using your Will to control mana is not a difficult thing to achieve. The first step is to locate the mana in your body. To most it is located in their hearts for others it may be in their brain or other important locations. Step Two after having located your mana you must start infusing your thoughts and desire into it to control it. This process may take some time just continue to try to influence the mana. When you can cause the mana to react to your will you will know you are on the right track.

"Haa… I have a feeling this is going to take a while"

Looking at the clock he saw that it just turned four o'clock. Turning back he moved around and himself comfortable.

Closing his eyes he felt for the mana in his heart. Ba Bumb Ba Bumb Ba Bump… Shaking his head he tried looking deeper. Ba Bumb Ba Bumb… Haa Haa Haa…

"Ahhh! Nothing I can't feel anything it's like it disappeared"

"When I first felt mana it was when it was moving from my heart into the spell on the paper. Maybe I should activate a spell and try to lock on to the mana while it's moving"

Taking out a spell he had made in the morning he put his plan into action. Taking a deep breath he activated the spell and felt for the mana.

The mana felt cool as it traveled throughout his body. The cool feeling was not uncomfortable and did not feel out of place. In fact cool was the wrong word a better word for how it felt was relaxing everywhere it passed his body relaxed. As his body started relaxing it cooled down compared to the rest of his body.

The mana itself truly felt nonexistent like it wasn't even there. After the mana left his body he felt a connection that he had overlooked as it was traveling throughout. The connection was weak like it would break at any moment yet it did not. Using the connection to feel the mana.

It felt endless as if it was an incomparably vast ocean. It felt serene and unchanging. It was like a dead ocean never moving an everlasting silence. Yet underneath all the serenity was turbulent water in constant flux. Oscillationing from one feeling to another.

A desolate feeling at first like everything was worthless and empty. Then a Scorching heat ready to destroy everything in its way. Changing again it became a feeling of weight a feeling of being dragged down by the world suffocating unable to escape. Changing once more to a feeling of haze like a fog of uncertainty lost and confused for eternity. Yet above the undercurrents of emotions was an ocean unmoving forever serene.

"Are those… Are those my emotions?"

"I see… My mana reflects my mental state"

Looking down Wesley sighed quietly. I thought I was doing better… I..I.. Just keep moving forward one step at a time Wesley just one step at a time.

Looking up once more with a renewed resolve he etched the feeling in his mind.

Deep inside his heart, Wesley felt the mana hidden away. The feeling of vastness and havoc was forever etched into his mind never to disappear.
