Chapter 41 - Developing Kingdom

"The extremely complex process aside," Hopscotch said with a nervous grin on her face. "Don't you think that it's too early for us to develop firearms? We're barely reaching an industrial state of civilization."

"There's no such thing as speedrunning civilization when it comes to weaponry!" Droste proudly exclaimed. "Not to mention, there's a very crucial reason why I opted for firearms this early."

Droste then told a story about how she managed to strike a great deal with the devil, enveloping the lab with a great sense of awe and curiosity.

"Achooo!"

"Ah, are you currently not feeling well, Miss Kuri?" Charles asked in concern.

"Ah, problem, absence." Kurisunetamayo wondered if someone was talking about her behind her back.

"This reminds me, I noticed that you talked with Droste for a while back then. Is this related to the firearm development that she's trying to implement?"

Kurisunetamayo nodded aggressively with a comfy smile. "Droste wonders, the priest of nezuras, possible application, regeneration, object trait, afterusage."

Immediately after, a couple of nezuras approached them.

"Hmm? What's the issue?"

"They say, vanguard members, assisting available projects." Kurisunetamayo's expression looked as if she was cycling her thesaurus for a proper word to use. "Vanguard usalians, assisting blacksmith Droste, long-ranged weapon developments. Current status, waiting for weapon completion."

"I see. We don't mind an extra helper just in case."

Kurisunetamayo then relayed to the nezura newcomers about the thing that they were currently attempting to do.

To explain it from the start, there was a complication regarding the case of water and hydration. A filtration system to procure the glowing water of the river that went through the outpost hadn't been developed.

This proved to be vital after it was found out that the light coming from the water was actually coming from a type of fluorescent plankton. An usalian might be capable of consuming it due to their superior immune system, but the nezuras might be afflicted with complication and sickness if they tried to consume it.

The kingdom might hadn't fully developed a proper microsoped, but it was hypothesized that there should be at least a hundred species of organism that was running through that river current.

"Oha!"

So as of now, using Kurisunetamayo's mastery of nature souls, the kingdom was trying to discover another source of water within this private realm.

"Alright, we can start digging now!"

Like usual, the nezuras were basically swimming through the soil as they dive to the depth. A couple of minutes later, a burst of water emerged, carrying some of the nezuras back onto the surface with their clothing and bodies. The spiritual fire residing in their ears remained unharmed by the water.

Apparently, the nezuras also didn't have the persisting irritation of having wet clothing, as they could use their telekinesis power to separate the water from the fabric.

"Ah!" Kurisunetamayo's expression shifted, as if a realization had just struck her "Ground water, found more spots!"

"Alright!" Charles shouted. "At this point, we shouldn't be stopping here. Lead the way, Miss Kuri!"

Meanwhile, on the far east side of the kingdom, an usalian with the name of Marshmallow could be seen directing the nezuras to terraform the tall hills of grassy meadow into a place of terraced agriculture.

"Yes! Like that! Don't forget to reinforce the structure of the wall too!" Marshmallow shouted. In here, she could be seen wearing a straw hat whilst holding one of the spiritual violet torches. "Awesome! Now we don't need to wait for rebars to strengthen the terrace rows."

Terraced fields decrease both erosion and surface runoff, and may be used to support growing crops that require irrigation. In this case, Marshmallow wanted to grow the seripium plants in large masses. At the same time, a larger quantity of plantation spots could also boost the speed of domestication for certain plants with a potential to become a great source of food and taste for the kingdom.

There was also an area that would be used to grow spheruts and other fruits that couldn't be placed in terraced farming since their roots ran much deeper.

"Ah." Marshmallow noticed a droplet of water fell onto her hat. "It's been a while since the homeworld rained."

The trickling tears of the night sky would soon develop into a constant weep. As the rain matured under the starry heaven, the residents fear not of the swaying dew, for they too welcome the tears as a blessing to enrich their beloved land.

Likewise, the nezuras could also be seen enjoying the pouring of the sky. Since for some of them, it was a rare occasion that they could experience due to the major part of their lifestyles most certainly include being permanently underground.

It might also tie to the fact that they possess much more adventurous nature than the usalian.

"I see, so it is starting."

Nagan stopped on his track, weaving his gaze back to the gentle sky as droplets raced down to his feet. It was, however, not what his eyes currently perceived.

Just before he went back to the homeworld, Nagan placed a receptor beacon on Earth. This beacon did nothing but to allow Nagan to sense the space and time of that world as if he was there.

This beacon was installed as a means to gauge the intensity of the rifts and portals that were appearing all over the world as the apocalypse did their role.

At the same time, it was also a tool for Nagan to sense some incoming event that would arrive on Earth, knowing that he wasn't the only one who regressed back into the past before the apocalypse arrived.

"Are you going back to Earth?"

Arriving without invitation, appearing without initiation. Owen placed an umbrella over his husband, sheltering him from the continuous cold that was emanating from the dimming fireside corner of his heart.

"The Earth will be safe in Humanity's hands." Nagan smiled a melancholic flare as he replied back to his worried rabbit wife.

"You can always ask me to open the gate whenever you miss your hometown~"

"We will go back." His eyes were placed upon his busy kingdom, the very same kingdom that he didn't expect to long and cherish in contrast to the amount of time he spent here. "When we get there."

The restless night was filled with the light of will-o-wisps.

Six days passed as the world progressed to the unknown future.

The current day of the year was less unknown to the eyes of humanity, however.

"To celebrate the migration of time churning into the brand new year!" Karasaki stood upon the podium, holding out a glass of spherut juice in his hand. "We shall cheer for our new peers!"
