The park was only a block away, but the brief walk was done in tense silence. An enemy could be watching from any direction, and everybody was on double alert.
This lasted until they reached the nearest line of trees. They looked old, and stood tall, throwing a wide shade on the surrounding lawn. A couple of weeks ago, this park must've been a nice place for walks. Now there was no person in sight, except for the birds, chirping as if nothing had changed.
Yoshikazu hurried to the nearest tree, forcing the rest of the group to follow. He touched its trunk and sighed with relief.
"That will work," the man said. "Gather closer to me, so things would be easier."
"Do as he said," Kaneda said to Jun. After a hesitating glance at Yoshikazu, she complied.
A green outline of a demon appeared behind Yoshikazu. The tree branches rustled without wind, and the grass under Jun's leg moved up.
