Chapter 1 - First impressions?

Ethan's POV

I sat on the edge of the bed naked, my hair fuzzy and rough. Last night had been very wild and the young lady by my side was fast asleep, stark naked on the bed.

"Damn," my head banged from a slight headache as I got up. It was nine thirty and the sun rays peeped from the off-white curtains, brightening up the room. I walked to the high-rise balcony and ran my hand through my hair. The view was awesome from the skyrise hotel as I could see buildings, the busy streets from above.

The suite was big and luxurious enough to blow your mind away and make you stay all day in bed. It was another suite, different from the last one. I had great tastes, obviously, and one of them was making sure to secure the best places for my one night stand adventures.

"Ethan?" the soft feminine voice said as I turned slowly to look at her.

Curvy, 5 feet 4 inches, golden brown hair and the most innocent gray eyes. She stood by the door, covering her breasts halfway as her brown nipples peeked as she smiled sexily.

Getting women who would do anything to have me sleep with them was easy. All i just needed was to say hi and every other thing becomes easy. It's just as easy as breathing. I found it simple to get women and for the record, no woman has ever refused or resisted me. I was handsome, fine body and smile that could make any woman wet in one touch and I am Ethan Heartwood — the powerful and coldhearted billionaire. Second to none.

"How was last night?" she walked up to me and wrapped her hands around my waist. "You were a beast in bed" she grabbed my chest and ran her hands down my groin.

I closed his eyes as I clenched my teeth and tightened my hands on the railing. Her small hands grabbed my manhood gently as she stroked it slowly, I turned to face her and lifted one of her legs causing the bedsheet she was covering her chest to fall to the ground. I bent her over and slid it inside of her, rolling my eyes in the burning pleasure of the soft skin.

I heaved a sigh of relief after I was done and headed to the bathroom with my cellphone, I didn't look back at her. Her body was sexy but I wasn't satisfied. It was still the empty, hollow feeling that I couldn't shake off after all these years I've been with women. All of the women I had been with were beautiful, gorgeous and classy women but they were all the same to me —flings and playthings I could dump at any time and feel no remorse or attachment whatsoever and besides, it was fun doing it.

"What's wrong Ethan?" she asked as she held her phone. I wired her thirty thousand dollars as a parting gift; I was done and time to move onto the next. "Have I done anything wrong? Did I do anything bad?" she asked frantically as she stood in front of me trying to catch my eyes in hers.

I didn't reply to her and continued dressing up. It was ten forty-two as I checked on my watch.

"Ethan, please" she held my sleeve as I headed for the door. "Please don't go. Is it about last night? I promise I can do better, I'll do anything you ask me to" she begged pitifully.

"Don't you call me ever again" I said with indifference and seriousness in my tone and left. I had another date by afternoon and it was going to end the same way too.

Twelve down for this month, more to go.

Mya's POV

"You forgot your phone Mya!" Charlie said loudly as she ran after me.

"What?!" I shouted back as I couldn't hear what she was saying. "What did you say?" I stomped my feet uneasily and checked the time on my watch, the bus stop wasn't far again and I searched my bag for my phone but it wasn't there.

Not again! I muttered to myself and ran to meet Charlie halfway.

"You…you.." she panted hard as we met. "Forgot…" she dangled the phone in front of me as she tried to catch her breath.

"Oh! Yes!" I rested my hands on my legs as I took deep breaths. "Thank you very much" I took the phone from her and hurriedly gave her a hug and I continued my pace back to the bus stop.

"Don't be late!" she waved at me as I jogged back. Charlie was my best friend and roommate. She was from a rich family but Charlie had always wanted to be her own person. Social, beautiful and a fashionista, Charlie wasn't that intelligent, top-of-the-class person that you would have imagined she was. She was quite a gullible lover, five different exes in the span of four weeks — that was the ones I could count by the way.

"Alright!" I waved back as I increased my pace. Charlie could live in a very fine apartment and afford to buy a house but she chose to live together with me in a small apartment. The house was looking okay, we have been living there since we were in college and our apartment was on the fifth floor in the building, the apartment we lived in was conducive enough to have us in with our things confortably but the problem was usually with the elevator. It broke down like three times in a week and we had to go down the long stairs which was tiring — but we were used to it already.

I got down from the bus and walked down the street that led to the restaurant. Mrs Potts owned a once-booming restaurant that was popular for it's magnificent dishes, but everything came crashing down when she lost her husband to an accident years ago.

The restaurant was short-staffed, there were only four workers there including me and the pay wasn't good enough but I couldn't just leave. Mrs Potts has been very good to me and I couldn't just leave her alone running the business all by herself so I decided to help out till I got a better job.

"Hey Mya, you're late today, anything the matter?" Elaine, a young lady in her early twenties smiled at me as I hung my bag. "Mrs Potts left five minutes ago" she maintained her smile as she handed me my apron.

"Phew" I chuckled, taking the napkin on the counter. "Yeah, it was the traffic"

"She was worried you didn't resume early. You know how she is" Elaine said as I went to clean the tables.

The restaurant was big enough to have close to thirty people in. There was Elaine the waitress, there was Ahmad the cook, and Tyler, the talkative boy who loved to do nothing but stand outside to welcome customers. He said it was easy since he didn't have to do the dishes.

"I hope there are customers today" Elaine sighed and sat in one of the chairs. "It's pretty boring without people coming here often"

"It used to be very busy here. I would cook till I almost flip my hands over the cooker" Ahmad said and laughed. "Mrs Potts would sit over there with her guitar and sing"

"There was this choreography we used to do. Tyler would remember" I laughed as I began to dance the steps.

"What am I missing?" Tyler sank in one of the chairs. "It's so hot outside," he fanned himself with his apron. "Is there any other food we have to add in the menu? Prolly it'll make them come" he lamented.

We talked and laughed for a while and sat quietly after. It was almost two o'clock and there were no customers yet. I scrolled through my phone and saw the notification on my phone.

'we are looking for a nanny to look after our two children, aged 10 and 12 years … '

I scrolled down for more details on the benefits and I was immediately attracted to it.

"$40-55k plus insurance reimbursement, overpay… 1.5x!" I sat up immediately and began to think, that was all I need to be comfortable. If I earned $40-55k monthly, I would be able to live the fine life I've always wanted, even better, save up to bring my dad and sister to Harleigh City.

I scrolled down again and saw the name, Heartwood. It was definitely for a very wealthy family and at this point, I have to strive for a good life, build rich and influential connections and nothing is going to make me back down until I get it.

"Welcome sir" I heard Tyler say and I quickly put my phone in my pocket and got up. It was a young-looking handsome man. It was even very hard for me to guess his age by his appearance, he was tall, his hands were tucked in his deep green pants and two buttons of his shirt was undone, exposing his sexy neckline and chest. His hazel eyes darted around for where to seat and a lady walked behind him. She was the same height as I was, five foot four, her short pleated navy blue skirt visibly showed her white, slim-thick thighs, her white baggy shirt exposed her shoulders and a navy blue beret rested on her long wavy hair.

It was obvious they were high classed people. The man sat and crossed his legs, his expression was blank. The lady was chittering and chattering away and he just watched her blankly.

"What would you like to have sir?" I said politely, looking away from the both of them.

"I'll have some iced mango juice" she replied immediately, tucking her hair behind her ears. "He'll have a bottle of coke for now" she added, blushing and tucking her hair behind her ears again.

I smiled and left to bring their order. Elaine dragged me as I began to set the tray. "What did she say?" She tugged me teasingly.

"I'll have some iced mango juice" I mimicked and pretended to tuck my hair behind my ears too.

"She's definitely those gals that's clinging onto a guy" Elaine said.

"How do you know that? She might be his girlfriend or something, even his sister. Thought of that?" I said as I opened the fridge.

"Are you blind Mya? Take a look at them" she pulled me close as we both looked at them. "he's not even looking at her"

"Yeah… that's true" I looked at them again. His face was fixed on the glass, looking outside while she tried to touch his hand to get his attention. "Gotta go" I carried the trays and left Elaine who continued to watch them.

She smiled as I set their orders and bowed slightly. He didn't look at her or me, he wasn't even smiling or having any expression on his face. What kind of human was he? I thought to myself.

Pttt… I scoffed dryly.

"Thank you," she said to me, using her eyes to tell me to leave. "We'll let you know when we want to order again" she smiled again as I left.

"Why's she acting like you want to take her man?" Ahmad asked with the spatula in his hand, the other hand akimbo on his waist "He's probably gonna end it with her"

"How do you know Ahmad?" I asked and sat behind the counter. They were the only customers in the restaurant.

"When a man seems uninterested in a woman like the way he is, it's obvious he brought her here to end things with her" he explained. "that's how it is, he's not in love again. She's the one that is, I mean if she is"

I watched them from where I sat. She was holding his hands and he took them away.

"He's handsome though" Elaine whispered as she sat next to me.

"Don't you have what you should be doing?" I asked her.

The next thing we saw was the lady on her feet.

"You are a dirty scumbag!" She said loudly as she pushed away the tray in front of them. Elaine, Ahmad and I behind the counter, interested in the next thing that's gonna happen.

"Why would you do this to me?" The man was still quiet even with all her drama and noise. We couldn't do anything but watch them, I mean not until one of them does something extreme like breaking a bottle.

He remained silent looking at her with empty eyes. He merely sighed and brought out a fine silver briefcase. Placing it on the table, he looked at her and flipped open the locks.

"What do you think you are do–!" He turned the briefcase around and her words were shut. Ahmad had left what he was doing to pick up his phone.

"What are you going to do with that?" Elaine asked, pointing at the device in his hands.

"Getting ready to call the Cops if this goes bad. I mean, we do not know what is in that briefcase"

"Ahmad is right, we should be at alert. Let me go see what's going on" I got up to take a tray and walked cautiously to their table. Elaine had wished me good luck as if I was going into battle.

"What is this, Ethan? You are selling me off?" She looked down at the briefcase. I could make out the contents of the case from my distance and I did not believe my eyes.

"You're just going to break up with me and give me money?" She turned away angrily and walked away a few steps before stopping in her steps. I saw her shoulders heaved before she turned back.

"I'm sorry, if I may ask is everything alright? It is a crucial part of our protocol to ensure the safety and well-being of our customers" I was finally at the table.

"Nothing at all, its just business. Could get rousy at times" Mr. Quiet finally spoke since he got in the restaurant. The lady was at the table this time. She closed the case and took it away with her after she gave him a death stare.

"Remember to lose my contact!" He added.

"Oh fuck you Ethan!" she banged the door of the restaurant behind her.

He looked at me and gave an obvious fake smile.

"I would like that Coke again, since the previous one is lying on the floor right there" he pointed to the broken shards of glass on the floor.

"Ri… right away sir" the whole scene had left me unbalanced. The more reason I can never date an already rich guy. I thought to myself.

I carefully picked the broken coke bottle and glass cup. Using the napkin on my left arm to carefully dab the liquid contents on the floor. Finally I have both trays on my hands as I meticulously walked to avoid any piece of bottle falling down.

"What happened?"

"What was in that briefcase? Hope it's not what I'm thinking?"

Elaine and Ahmad shot the questions at me. I first and foremost disposed of the shards of glass in the bin before turning around to answer them.

"Let me get his order first, I'll be right back" I took another bottle of coke from the chiller and placed it on the tray I was holding. I also added a small napkin and a glass cup on the tray.

"You go, and you get back here right now!" Elaine spoke in excitement of the gist. Ahmad just continued chopping the one vegetable he has been chopping since the two customers walked in.

Charlie was going to be super shook when I tell her what happened today.

Ethan's POV

I knew what was gonna happen. They all threw tantrums and acted like they were hurt but it was all an act, they always came back for the prize. Typical. I ran my hands softly through my hair.

I watched her stomp away with the briefcase and flag down a taxi.

Works everytime.

I turned to look at the young girl and the men peeping from the counter and they quickly continued with their work, bumping into each other.

The young lady put the coke on the table and bowed slightly, her hands folded together at the back. She opened up the bottle and gently poured the coke into the glass cup. I gave her a nod. It's actually something I could have poured myself.

"I'll pay for any damages whatsoever. Send me the bill. Thank you" I said to her as she bows and went back to join her colleagues for an obvious gossip session.

I sipped my coke quietly enjoying the scenery outside. She wasn't going to call again, her number was already blocked and deleted. I liked the restaurant. It wasn't crowded, swarming with people like the one I was used to. This place was like an hideout where you can just chill quietly with no fear of unwanted attention. I hate unwanted attention.

I take in my coke again, but this time in a big gulp. It was chill but not enough for me. I loved my drinks ice cold, more specific filled with ice cubes.

The screams and camera flashes irritate me a lot. I was used to it already but most times, I preferred being in a place where nobody knew me and luckily, this is the place. Understaffed, obviously, the owner probably is struggling to hold the restaurant together. It looked like it was once an active place judging by the structure and pictures hung on the wall filled with sticky notes and photos of people in the restaurant.

I gestured to the waiter. I was going to ask her to bring some ice cubes.

It was time for new catch and tonight was the perfect hunting time.
