Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

I had doubts of him fulfilling that promise. If any problems cropped up in the future, it was unlikely the Director would cast any blame his son's way, at least not in our hearing, the staff would be bearing full responsibility for any hiccups.

"Sit"

I eyed the chair with all the mistrust I could muster.

"Those are my visitor's chairs Nisha, why would I do anything to them with the possibility of anyone walking in at any time and sitting on them? Just sit"

I gave one last glance at the seat his outstretched hand gestures at and sat gingerly on the other one, my butt tightly clenched in anticipation.

Nothing happened.

"Sir?" I voiced, eager for him to get on with it.

I am quite sure Addy boy is fully aware I strongly dislike him so we play these games.

And the day we met was just like him. Seemingly okay but a disaster in the end.

It had been raining heavily that day the way he liked to rain on my parade. I was standing in front of my building contemplating holding out for the rain to stop because I still had time to spare. A suited figure came and stood beside me.

"Good morning" It was a pleasant voice and seemingly friendly considering how most of us occupying this building simply went on with our lives without much interaction.

"Oh hi. Do you stay here too?"

"Yes"

"I just moved"

"How are you liking the area?"

"It's quite nice so far. Where are you headed? Maybe I could take you at least some ways"

Sensibly, I wouldn't tell him exactly where I was heading. I wasn't born yesterday. I could stop some ways from my Office. And if he tried to kill me in his car? I guess that was my fate then.

"I'm going to Ring Road"

"That's on my way. Let's go"

"Yes"

He seemed like he wouldn't need trafficking money. Unless if that was how he amassed his current wealth of course. The black car and his clothes gave off expensive vibes to my eyes.

Flashbacks of adults scolding me for sitting in the back when they were driving up front scrolled through my mind as I opened the door to front passenger seat.

"I haven't even asked your name"

"Cheryl. Yours?"

"Adrian"

"Nice to meet you Cheryl. You work at Tusca Holdings?"

"How did you know?"

"Lucky guess. You mind telling me what you do there?"

I told him about all the 'gossip' in my company, I was basically writing a novel. The boss sleeping with his secretary and the secretary being the sister of his wife.

"She caught them?

"She unexpectedly showed up that day and just walked in since it was her husband's office. Whatever surprise she had was surely trumped by what she saw"

He seemed perfectly nice but I had already lied about having a boyfriend soooo.

All 5'6 of me alighted from the car. No missing parts, no physical or mental abuse suffered aside from the freezing temperature I just escaped from. How did he find that comfortable?. All in all, a not-bad experience. I walked in the direction of my fake workplace , counting up to hundred for the car to be completely out of sight before turning around. The downpour was now basically a down drip. I checked my watch. I still had plenty of time. If it wasn't for the rain, I would have taken a nice leisurely stroll to the office. I turned back.

Our students dotted the landscape as far as I could see, up ahead of me and also behind me. A trail of good mornings followed me as I forged ahead.

I warmly greeted the security men on duty, remembering to ask Joseph about his daughter that had recently put to bed. Apparently, the Director's son was already in school. I hastened my footsteps, it wouldn't be a good look if he noticed that I arrived much later than him on his first day.

My walk slowed to a halt as I sighted the car that would later become a harbinger of doom.
