Cass had just stepped out of the shower, the heat from the water still clinging to her skin, when there was a knock at the door. She tugged on a fresh set of clothes—a simple T-shirt and jean shorts—and tied her hair up into a messy bun, wondering who it could be.
When she opened the door, Arian stood on the other side, his expression as stern as ever, though the dark circles under his eyes spelled exhaustion. His gun was tucked neatly into its holster, and his rigid posture only added to the tension that seemed to follow him like a cloud.
"I was instructed to give you a tour," he said, his voice devoid of any pleasantries. No small talk. Just business.
Cass raised an eyebrow but nodded. She liked no-bullshit, straightforward types. They were easy to understand.
"Sure, give me a sec," she said, slipping her feet into a pair of flip flops before following him out.
