Chapter 23 - 23: 'Gold-digging Slut'

Levi pulled open the door, looking like he wanted to yell something only to clam up when he saw that she was the one at the door.

"Nova," He said flatly, his blue gaze unwelcoming.

"Babe! Who is it?" Stella's syrupy voice called from somewhere nearby, right before she came into view wearing Levi's shirt, obvious hickeys on her neck.

She crossed her arms at the sight of her, her expression hateful. "Well, look what the cat dragged in, a gold-digging slut."

Nova let the insults roll off her back, Stella's words were mere pinpricks compared to the sight of them living in such domesticity only two days after she left. "I'm not here for a fight," She said wearily, "I just want my things."

"What? Your rich boy-toy doesn't want to spend his money on you anymore?" She griped.

"Stella," Nova said in a warning tone, noting that Levi made no move to interfere - she didn't know what she had been expecting from him.

"Think I'm scared of you, bitch?"

This time Nova remained silent, she knew that Stella was just trying to rile her up and her responses would only egg her on.

Stella spent a full minute looking her over like she had worn a garbage bag and rolled in mud before showing up, "Your things are in the hallway, you're lucky I didn't fucking throw them out."

With the answer to her question in hand, Nova turned to Levi, "Can I come in?"

He at least had the littlest bit of decency to look troubled by her question, stepping back to let her in.

"Hurry up and pack them all out, they're stinking up my house," Stella threw at her as she started the stressful work of moving her heavy bags and boxes.

Nova once again didn't give her the satisfaction of a response, she just wanted to be done so she could leave. Her patience was quickly wearing thin however when Stella didn't let up, constantly insulting her and even kicking her things to make her job harder. What hurt more than her only best friend doing all this to her was her ex-boyfriend watching in a corner without making a single move to stop her.

By the time she was taking out the second to the last box out, Stella tripped her, making her drop to her knees painfully. Nova had had enough by this point, she turned around in anger, hating the way her eyes started to tear up.

"What is wrong with you, Stella?" She asked sharply, "You take every single thing from me and for some reason, you think you have the moral high ground? Are you insane?"

"Shut up! Fucking bitch." She bent down menacingly, her blonde hair hair in a loose bun. "You like to play the victim so fucking much! Oh, I don't have any parents, oh, you took everything from me- Says the same fucking whore that had her sugar daddy fire Levi and blacklist him from every media company in the fucking world."

Nova fell silent at her rant, not because she agreed with what Stella said but because this was the first time she was hearing about this.

"Humiliate him by inviting him to an influential dinner and then have him taken out like a fucking criminal? Where do you get off playing the fucking victim? Huh?"

Nova was speechless, she couldn't believe Stella. How could someone so cruel be so convinced that they were the oppressed party? She silently got to her feet and picked up her box again, knowing that she shouldn't have engaged Stella at all because that was exactly what she had been waiting for.

"Not going to say anything huh? Because you know I'm fucking right-"

Nova just tuned her out, focusing on getting all her things out of the house. She had never been happier to see a door get slammed in her face, not caring that she was attracting stares by being in front of her apartment with all of her things scattered around her.

Nova's eyes burned badly but she refused to cry, biting her lip hard until it bled to keep her tears at bay. When she could take a step without breaking down into uncontrollable sobs, she focused on moving her things to the side of the road, making another trip with her things down the footpath of the house.

Finding the little box where all her money was kept was easy and she was relieved that Stella hadn't found it because she knew that she would have done something as evil as tearing the bills without even taking it. After all, a hundred dollars was nothing to her, but she would do it because she wanted to hurt Nova.

Finding a cab wasn't easy and by the time she was been driven back to Roan's mansion, it was already late in the afternoon. Despite her protests, the bodyguards insisted on helping her take her things inside which was a godsend because she would have collapsed trying to take her things inside the mansion.

With all her things carefully moved to her new room, Nova needed a moment. She sat on the ground, exhausted physically and mentally, tears silently streaming down her face even though she tried not to cry.

It was at this moment that she realized how much she actually depended on Roan because if he had been around, he would have immediately reached out to her and tried to make her feel better. But now that she was all alone, the full weight of her grief was on her own shoulders, and she could do nothing but sit and watch the sun set.

She couldn't sit on the ground forever, there were a lot of things that demanded her attention so she forced herself to get up, her rumbling stomach reminding her that she hadn't eaten all day. She needed to shower and request for dinner, maybe after that, she would feel less shitty and be able to tackle her luggage.
